You are conflating fan-originated profanity with player-originated profanity. We've already drawn that distinction in this thread.
Well, they basically said the one finger gesture is regarded as profane. I figured you came in 10min after, so maybe you read it and came to Pinky's conclusion.
Y'know, it's sort of funny -- in every other league I've ever seen or heard of, the commissioner serves at the pleasure of the owners and serves their purposes. Apparently, this formula is reversed in the "single-entity" monstrosity that is the structure of this league? Anyway -- I still think Wolfe & Co. need to bitschslap this prick into next week...
haven't had the energy to go back and view this moment to see if any of my Gerber approved "compliments" on his mustache made it on to the air after our last match.
And totally excellent and appropriate. That call was total bullshit, and no other team would have suffered that crap that season, excepting only us. The refs have a tendency to think that the "good teams" don't commit fouls, and that the "poor teams" commit lots of fouls. They need to learn how to be more objective, but I'm not sure how to achieve that. GO QUAKES!! F#% Garber!! - Mark
What do you base this opinion on?? In 2012, 5 of the top 6 foul committing teams were in the playoffs, and these were in order VAN, SKC, RSL, SEA, and SJ. The non-playoff team in the top 6 was Thug FC (Philly) who were 2nd. The league average for fouls was 418. Those 5 playoff teams averaged a whopping 452. 6 of the 11 teams above the average were playoff teams. Of the 8 teams below the average, it was split evenly between playoff and non-playoff teams. Whatever the refs might be thinking, the stats show refs tending to call more fouls on the better teams. Maybe it's you that needs to be more objective in your thinking.
Notice that your list does not include el-lay nor NYJ. NYJ of course, had Marquez on their squad, and while he didn't play that many games, he could have earned a yellow or red card in nearly every game he played. Moreover, while shittle got called for a lot of fouls, you can't think that Alonso got called for enough fouls, or got enough red or yellow cards for his hack work. Beyond that, you try to refute my argument that some teams are not called for enough fouls by siting the number fouls called. Dude, I am already arguing that the refs over look fouls by certain team or players, thus their fouls will not appear in your analysis. When I watch MLS games, whether I'm watching Quakes games or non-Quakes games, I notice that el-lay, NYJ, and shittle get away with a ton of fouls that the refs do not call. Especially as compared to other teams. (My personal bias is that I want more fouls called. I want to see MLS become more of a skill league, and less of a hacking thug league.) Even though shittle made the list of most fouls committed, they could easily have been called for many more fouls. You're welcome to disagree. Best to have this conversation over beer though. LA was slightly over the league average at 421. NYRB was slightly under at 410. If Marquez had played more they probably would have been over the average as well. The stats I gave are the direct result of the observation of people trained to make those calls and to be impartial doing it. They saw every second of every game. Are they perfect? Not by any means. But, instead, I am supposed to rely on the anecdotal evidence of some guy sitting in front of a tv, who only saw a fraction of the games, and was probably working his way through a six pack at the same time? Yeah, ok.
