Yeah, and I hope that he gets that chance. But honestly, forward is not the worry position of this team for this cycle anymore. That would be CB, and second would be wingers.

I take it that you don't realize that I'm a Quakes fan from the Bay Area. ;)

I predict Wondo lighting it up in the Gold Cup and still being denied a regular spot with the Nats

    Pontius isn't a wide guy.

He gets called into camp but then what you've done in your league is irrelevant. You are competing against other guys in camp for a spot. If other guys show more then you're out. Or if the coaches is looking for specific kinds of strikers due to tactics then you may be out too.
Your league play gets you an invitation, that's it.

Honestly, I have no idea why Boyd is ahead of Wondow, Pontius, or a litany of other MLS guys. He isn't even consistently starting in a league that is at best equal to MLS. What has he done that's so impressive?

Boyd is the same as Agudelo, he's a prospect and Klinsmann is giving him exposure.

All US coaches, beginning with Arena, gave exposure to the ambitious youngsters.

And I've always supported that policy.

    So Agudelo >>> Wondolowski?

At least in the NT that seems to be the case.

I wonder if the reason is because Agudelo plays in Liga MX?

Oh wait, Chivas USA my bad :p

He has 10 goals so far in all competitions that's pretty good.

Depends on who he is lighting it up against I suppose.
If he scores a hat-trick against the likes of Grenada or Nicaragua then your prediction could come true.

If he scores crucial goals against a team like Mexico I don't see why he would be denied.

We all know you are in fact emotionally warped towards German American players due to your shared heritage. Thanks.

MLS is a higher level than the Austrian league.

Boyd has scored in the Europa League. Pretty sure the MLS is not ranked higher than the Europa League.

And like practically everyone said earlier, Boyd is a prospect. Wondo is pushing 30 and hasn't demonstrated anything with NATs to warrant more call ups. Pontius was actually called up, but was injured and in playoffs (during Russia friendly).

I'm not sure he has a 'future' but i think he definitely has a present. We're going to have injuries, we have the Gold Cup, etc. I think he will see a fair number of callups in 2013.

I think he is a longshot to make the 2014 roster, but i think he can be one of the guys who helps get us there. Conor Casey scored 2 huge goals in a vital game during 2010 qualification, for example....he was never a serious consideration for the final roster. You need more than 23 guys.

Arguably theyre the same but biggest teams there would damage our best teams. But we have more long term potential

Simple fact is that Wondolowski's combination of attributes makes him difficult to really make a case for. If we wanted a fox in the box, we've got Gomez and Dempsey for that. Wondo's also not really anything amazing on the dribble. He's not fast. He's not big or strong, although I like that he uses that to get scrappy with bigger defenders. He's not the kind of guy who'll spring you with a ridiculous release pass, although he does have clever short passing ability and good touch.

I just think we've already got what he offers. He's a great player. It's a shame that he can break that record and he probably won't be used for the U.S.. I'm sure his friends tell him that all the time. It's really got to be rough on his mind.

Throw him in the pile with Cunningham. Not good enough.
