http://living.msn.com/life-inspired...ost?post=cebc6221-616a-4f80-ad31-f7f09890a258 The business of consumer espionage — they call it database marketing — is silently expanding, and a company called Acxiom is one of the industry’s top spies. These guys know far more about you and your family than an online vendor learns by placing cookies in your browser. With 1,500 data points per person on 500 million individuals, Acxiom has more info than your best friend does. According to NYT, they’ve been collecting offline and online information for the past forty years, covering everything from your religion, voter profile, income, debt, ethnicity, and investing habits to your favorite veggies, pet foods, TV shows, and house plants.
Perhaps we should do the same for all of their executives and then post that information online, including their names, addresses, who they vote for, where their kids go to school, and a copy of their credit report... Surely they won't mind.
Colorado Public Radio's daily "Colorado Matters" program had a story along these lines today: What Political Campaigns Know About You
This is a point that some Ron Paul supporters I know have brought up so I am having a little fun. I's not meant to be harmful or an insult.
How about the choice "people fear big brother, yet have no problem posting every little thing of their life and telling everyone where they are and what they are doing on facebook"
And they sign up for those discount cards that just about every retailer is offering for free. Shit, you think they're offering those things out of the goodness of their hearts? Offering you a lousy 5% discount is a small price to pay for finding out just a little bit more about you.
If you're using Chrome, or probably any other browser, you can install a free plug-in called Collusion which shows you which sites are tracking you this second. I have close to 100 following me around right now.
and the day before that they had a story about the super rich guys contributing to super PACs being all up in arms because certain information was revealed about them, and they were getting some harassment as a result.
true, but that's a choice. as any bar tender or barber will tell you, people are more than ready to reveal the most intimate details of their lives (esp. under the influence of a couple gin and tonics), having just met you. but that's a choice they make. maybe a bad one, but still a choice. it's a man's personal choice. people tend to get upset when people or corporations are snooping around and collecting info or gossip about them without their knowledge and/or consent.
True, it is much easier now just pay twitter, Google and Facebook. I mean the CIA/FBI/NWO/Illuminati/Alliens/Etc. must be pissed of all the time and effort they spend collecting all this information and all they had to do was create a social network and people would have done it willingly.
I'm getting an ad for The Brooks Institute suggesting I want to learn photography, and three pictures of barely legal Columbian girls for Columbian Cupids suggesting I want to date single women who haven't mastered English.
I keep getting ads for Romney and Obama, Tickets for a concert I already bought tickets to and Russian Brides.
No offense to the chicas, but I wouldn't mind if the Russian brides worked their way into the rotation.
