What ever happened to Diego Maradona Jr. - I know he plays for internapoli but he's about 20 , so i guess he's not good or else he'd be playing pro with S.S.C. Napoli.

I have a memory to share, having to watch an ocean away Maradona return to Napoli. It was bad sitting here on my computer watching the live feed and seeing all the fans going crazy and wanting to be there knowing that he was back. It's kind of a happy sad moment right there.

Has anyone read any books on Maradona?

I have read the Hand of God by Simon Burns
It was a fast easy flowing read. It had a lot good background info on Diego and his past. One story that caught my attention: When he was about 10 years old Diego was the half time show for Argentino Juniors. The club had him juggle a ball during half time and he usually got more applause than the actual first team did during their game.

I would like to read his autobiography El Diego

I'm not sure. I know they did for a little while and I checked the Napoli wikipedia english and italian page and it did not show that there were any retired numbers for Napoli. I remember a few months ago they did have # 10 posted as retired. I really don't think any body will take or wear the #10 for Napoli ever again. The only person who had a shot was Maradona Jr., and I don't think that he will be wearing it any time soon. Do you guys remember when the Argentinian football federation tried to retire the #10? In the end they were denied by FIFA.

The Italian page has a ton more info on Napoli than the English wiki page

I used to go to the San Paolo every chance I got, in the days when Maradona was king of Napoli, and when a ticket was the equivalent of about $5 US, and a panino con Salisiccia e Friarielli was about $2. I remember a game with (if I remember correctly) Atalanta. It had rained all the previous night and all day of the game. The pitch was soaked. The stadium was full anyway. At one point of the game, Diego got the ball on one side of a large puddle (must have been about 15 feet long or so). A defender stood on the other side of the puddle waiting for Maradona to make his move. When the defender moved toward him, Diego flipped the ball over the defender (now standing ankle deep in water), the puddle, ran around the other side and "caught" it on his left foot before it hit the ground. He was amazing. And many of my childhood memories are attached to him. When Napoli won the scudetto, there was "pandemonio", a true celebration of Napoletano joy. I'll never forget it. The street vendors turned everything blue, the castagne, the baccala', everything!!! :D

    Forza Napule!

Don't get me wrong ... I love Maradona, but that was 20 years ago. It's great to talk about Diego as a part of Napoli but it's not all we ever were. I like to look at the team now and not only remember our team when we were the greatest in serie A. Also I hate the fact that we've retired number 10. The number 10 is a staple in soccer ... it's your number 1 guy, and to say that we'll never have a number 10 is a little upsetting.

If you go on Youtube.com you can find a video of Maradona in pieces. Just type his name in a click on the sort by recently added. He talks about his technique and his style and there are a bunch of commentators that talk about him as well.

I agree with that. And crazy as this may sound, a better #10 will come along somewhere in the world, maybe one day even for Napoli. That's what makes the game great. But it shows how great Diego was that one has not come along yet anywhere in the WORLD as good as him.

Since we're on the subject of Napoli and great Number 10s I found THIS CLIP appropriate.

I must admit it was great to see him playing again at that SoccerAid, or Sportrelief charity game a few months ago. He truly looked great, would have loved to have seen him score.

Maradona vs Platini, Maradona vs Matthaeus, Maradona vs Baggio and Maradona vs Zico. You don't get midfield battles like that in the Serie A anymore!

This is my best translation from today's GDS on Diego Maradona being furious w/Macri of Boca and also mad that he let the Bush twins in the stadio Bombonera wearing Boca jersey's.d
    http://www.gazzetta.it/Calcio/Estero/Primo_Piano/2007/01_Gennaio/04/maradona.shtml

    Maradona: on Boca's jersey
he says it shouldn't be worn by the Bush twins
Diego vents against the presidente of Boca Juniors, Is guilty of inviting the daughters of the Usa president to the Bombonera. He also doesn't forgive the firing of Basile the trading of Gago

BUENOS AIRES (Arg), 4 gennaio 2007 - Because he is friends with Fidel Castro, he shows it without a blink. We know that he loves Cuba. Or that he is in line with the views of the white house. This time however, Maradona, has found a curious motive to vent against the president of Boca Juniors, Mauricio Macrì. It was his fault that last December he invited the daughters of President Bush (Jenna e Barbara Bush) to the Bombonera, the temple of soccer in Buenos Aires: a sort of outrage for Diego who has never been mysterious that he doesn't like US politics.
"I feel very distant from Macrì on certain issues- said the Pibe de Oro -, & I say it clearly. He didn't beat the mafia, and this saddens me. Then he let's Bush's daughters wear the Boca Juniors jersey".
Now, the second thing is incontestable and has been tried by the photos. The first accusation, would instead ask for other tests than a generic accusation on how Diego Armando Maradona, is furious with the president of the Boca, a tv program of TyC Sports. But the ex Argentinean ace is not new to similar outbursts.
But Maradona doesn't even forgive Macri for any operational technical tactics. Above all with the choice of Ricardo Lavolpe as trainer of Boca in place of Alfio Basile, now national team coach. "I had told Macrì to hold on to Basile until the end of the year - explains Maradona -, now we find ourselves with one less championship (that lost in the playoff with Estudiantes, ndr)." The second would be the transfer of Gago to Real Madrid. "If they could have waited, Boca would have been able to make more money off of him- El Pibe closed out by saying, "instead they sold him just the same."

Man, I nearly cried when I saw this video. He was great, I hope Napoli has some glory days again. However, no one will ever bring what Maradona brought to Napoli.

nope that's why the Napoli fans (myself included) still think he's a Saint. He's the greatest thing that ever happened to Napoli.
