We've officially drawn our first game.

At some point between the 13th and the 16th (EDIT: of August), we will travel to the outskirts of Berlin to play Babelsberg. Interestingly, this is the second time we've drawn them in recent seasons.

So we'll have a chance to begin a trip to Berlin, in Berlin. :)

Are we going to actually have two defenders available?

Well, it was just reported that Tasci will have to miss the game.

So, I guess our central defence lineup will be Boulahrouz and Niedermeier, which is good enough.

    Just read that too...

Do you think it's because of legit lack of match fitness... or is there some stuff brewing to this Arsenal transfer hype?

So, round one just an hour away!

Here's the side that I personally would line up with:
    -------------------Ulreich
    Degen------Boulahrouz--Niedermeier----------Boka
    Gebhart------Traesch----Kuzmanovic--------Audel
    --------------Harnik-------Cacau

    In defence:
Celozzi is injured so no competition there, Degen to get his competitive debut with us. In defence, Gentner has been generally poor in that position, he should be focused in midfield. Delpierre and Tasci are out through injury, but Boulahrouz is fit by now an should start today. Indeed, it would be interesting 'cause it could let us decide which of Niedermeier and Boulah should have the upper edge going into the new season. At leftback, I would play with Boka simply because once the league starts I don't see him getting much playing time whatsoever as Molinaro is just generally better. So I guess down to that give him a spot today - but I do think Molinaro will get the start.

    Midfield:
Central midfield is Kuz and Traesch, Gentner maybe to appear as a sub. Gebhart to start on the right, and Gross said he wasn't sure but I would like to see Audel get his competitive debut in the first 11 today. Especially with the uncertainty surrounding Rudy.

    Attack:
Cacau should get a competitive game before the season starts. Harnik came in twice in the uefa cup, he deserves a start today as neither Marica nor Pogrebnyak were particularly impressive in those two games. That being said, i'd expect Pogrebnyak to partner cacau today.

    Looking forward to this :)

1-0 Babelsberg after just 4 minutes....

Why do we always have to complicate things??

Regardless of the final score, I will post after the game...

Edit: post A LIST after the game

A list of times in the last 5 years in which we have met clubs in cup competitions that are grossly under our natural level of ability yet against whom we have either really struggled to go through against, or have indeed actually been eliminated by.

It is the case literally every year in the Pokal, and has been the case in Europe as well on many occasions.

Anyway, I hope and expect us to make a comeback in this one.

I loved the seriousness of Cacau in that whole sequence from the build up to the shot to the celebration. He's taking this personly. This is HIS TEAM now, and you can tell. He looked pissed we went down early.

Here's the lineup, particularly interesting is our midfield:
    --------------------Ulreich
    Degen-------Boulahrouz--Niedermeier-------Molinaro
    Traesch-------Gentner-----Kuzmanovic-----Gebhart
    --------------Cacau--------Pogrebnyak

So, Traesch tried at right mid today, Gentner gets a start in his favourite position alongside Kuz, and Gebhart moves over to the left. Interesting. Well, Traesch and Gentner have been the better of the 4 midfielders so far.

Cacau with 14 goals in 21 Pokal games by the way - pretty good score.

Audel on in the 60th for Gebhart, playing the left wing.

I bet he probably didn't start because of conditioning. Well, here he has 30 minutes to show up what he's got :).

So far quiet in 5 minutes since entering, but has done a good job tracking back on defense. My research this week yielded that he has pace, speed and height. I like his work effort.

Been a quiet second half so far, 20 minutes let (EDIT: left). Let's not forget that we're only one goal up, so no screw ups please!

Marica on for Pogrebnyak, who was invisible. 15 minutes left.
