You mean he was our best player after Kroos?

Did you see his defensive brainfarts? putting the ball between his legs, and another guy turning him inside out on the byline before he brought the guy down, Another day might have been a penner

I thought Bochum played their hearts out and other than Bayern's last counterattack looked great in defense. Does anyone know when the draw for the fourth round of the DFB Pokal is? Mia San Mia!

    game on!
& i want this game to be the most uncomfortable game of Mario Gomez's life..

What? Mario being going back to his former 'Home Ground' would be scoring a hat-trick but would be finding it tremendously uncomfortable to celebrate :)

Will the game be a home or away for bayern?

    NM, I just saw it...

I don't understand, in the german cup are the home/away random?

Theoretically, bayern could be playing away games the entire tournament..

I didn't see the game, was in the lab. He's looked suspicious ever since Schweini was out though.

i know this not putting something new to the table but I was always of the opinion that we need another world class CB as Bads & DVB can never win us the UCL..
Now, as there are no signs of getting a new CB, IMO, Bads/DVB should be rotated which would make our defence line as follows-
    Rafinha---Boateng---DVB/Bads---Lahm
If the mentioned three are kept intact in each & every game...
    Miracles can happen!

The hate for bads is relentless...

To me Dvb has been the weakest link, I think I overall bads has been
pretty good this season. He's improved a lot over the past year.

I am not so sure. I think that when DVB stays home, he is strong; when Badstuber is exposed as the last defender, he has not looked good. Typically I find these two things go hand in hand, as DVB's missed tackles up the field expose the slower Badstuber who is left to defend 1v1. I have stated this on several occasions on these boards. The teams that have beat us has proven this to be the key, pulling DVB out of the center and leaving the slow youngster (wide backs not pinching in to help is another issue). The choice is simple really.... either DVB goes up field and wins the tackle (or fouls, either way "kills" the play), or stays home and lets the DM's handle it.

Regardless, both have had equal shares of issues. As has Boateng. I think the hardest part for Jupp has been that of 3 mediocre CB's, he has to find the best two that work well together to some capacity. Their inconsistencies isn't helping matters.

DVB has had a markedly better term than previous year(s). Bads still has his youth to bank on, meaning he has years of experience left to draw from. Boateng is most athletic and best in recovery but has shown to flashes of lack of self-control and rash tackles around the penalty area.

It is a toss up. Like every season at this position.

You have indeed summed up the DVB-Bads situation splendidly however, I beg to differ on the highlighted point.

Boateng has been rock solid as a CB, however we really can't blame him for his mistakes as he has never had a fixed position and has been rotated consistently as a RB and a CB thus hampering his judgement and inturn the team's performance.

In order to up the ante', Don Jupp would have to cement Boateng as a CB and Rafinha as a RB and as it is the Captain's position is fixed.

Yea I think some of our best defensive performances have been with Boateng in the middle. Same for Badstuber, some of his best performances have been with Boateng next to him. VB-Badstuber can work but not in every situation and not against every team. It's a shame. If it wasn't for the NT, I don't think Boateng would spend much time out at RB.

I think Buyten is one of the worst one on one defender we have ever seen in the BL.

vs Bochum he was skinned at least 2-3 times in dangerous situations and these are Bochum players not Milito.

In Most cases, Badstuber has the decency to foul them and get carded for it but Buyten just let them get past like he is not there and points fingers to everyone else

I don't understand why Heynckes insists on using DvB. The boateng and badstuber combo was reliable as far as I can tell.

I was trying to look at the situation from a results vs coaches point of view. The above was my summary. I tried desperately to shed my personal opinion in the matter.

So, personally... I think Boateng is and should be a CB. He is not the future RB.

If you want my complete honest, and have sane, wish is to see how Gustavo and Boateng would fair as the 2 CB's. This would only be possible with Schweini's return, but the option of having two very quick CB's is appealing to me, after watching the donkey tandem for the past several weeks/years.

Agree with Eiss on this. Having watched Gus for a year now I think we can all agree that he is best when defense is his primary responsibility. With him and Boa we'd finally have a pair of CB who could both play a high line and pass. We could rotate Gus and Bads depending whether we were pressing or lining up defensively and have two tactical options for opponents to worry about.
