Alright, which Werder cup team will turn up away to Preußen Münster next week? I think it'll be uncomfortably close, but we'll win it. Say, 2-1 Thoughts?
That will be an interesting match. Münster already played 5 league matches and has some former BL player in their line-up, e.g. the former Werder players Amaury Bischoff (strange career way: Werder -> Arsenal London -> Deportivo Aves -> Münster) and Dominik Schmidt (still famous for his contract negotiations two years ago). Münsters goalgetter is former USA U-20 player Matthew Taylor, now already 30 years old, but with a good start into the season (3 goals, 1 assist in 5 matches). Currently they are on rank 4 in 3. Liga, so on paper it is a similar constellation like last season Heidenheim match, but our players should be warned and better prepared now.
I am hoping for a better performance than our round 1 showing from last season. The DFB Cup is a competition we should be able to advance deeply in (if not win.)
Given our record at home in this competition, this is very true. I suspect that the Bayerns and Dortmunds out there will be much more focused on Europe this season so that the DFB pokal may be an afterthought. Given our lack of European competition, we should certainly mount a sustained campaign in the cup.
I guess I'll post this here in lieu of making a 'everyone else' thread... anyone seeing this game between Berliner AK 07 and Hoffenheim right now? Die Hoffe are down 0-3 at the half! and they've got a full squad out there, included our much beloved former Goalkeeper Val Kilmer Tim Wiese. Oh Timmy....bad choice to leave...
4-0 the final score for Berliner AK. Well, at least in the cup Wiese could not hold his promise (He said he wanted to finish better than Werder).
Anyone else beginning to think that Naldo and Mertesacker were actually impregnable in central defense and that it was Wiese all along who was responsible for our bad goals against record?
OK, just saw the Hoffenheim highlights.... 1st goal wasnt his fault..it was a freak goal 2nd goal. Wiese was left out to dry on his defense, but he did a VERY poor job managing a one-on-one situation. 3rd goal. All Wiese's fault, yes defense pushed too high, but Wiese got a full hand on the ball...yet it still went in. 4th goal...all Wiese's fault...he kicked a goal kick straight to an opposing player who walked in and scored on him.
Lol, he really did not look good today. I dunno what was going on today with Hoffenheim, they totally got slaughtered by a 4th division team and it could have been even worse than 0-4 based on the chances Berliner AK had.
Not if Werder plays football. I can't still believe what Hoffenheim did there. 4-0 for a semi-pro team against a BL with the season goal to qualify for a European competition, WTF?! That can have either have a Pashing effect on them (In 2003 Werder lost 0-4 in the UI Cup there and later won the double) or be a heavy negative punch. A bit sad for Wiese since he did us nothing wrong (he simply looked for a club that offered him a good long-term contract and Werder could not invest that much money on a single position). The scenes Patrick described really looked horrible (especially the fourth goal was a total blackout by him) and will set him under pressure.
Kreiszeitung is hinting at Fullkrug starting tomorrow... i would be ecstatic if that happened sounds like midfield will consist of Elia, Hunt, Juno, de Bruyne, and Fritz... does not seem like Arnautovic is ready quite yet, no reason to rush him with Juno & de Bruyne looking good so far http://www.kreiszeitung.de/sport/fussball/werder-bremen/petersen-noch-aussenseiter-2464557.html
Starting XI vs Munster: Mielitz, Gebre Selassie, Prödl, Sokratis, Iggy, de Bruyne, Juno, Fritz, Hunt, Elia, Petersen
