In the first round we will face 1.FC Heidenheim from East Württemberg. The city has about 50.000 inhabitants, the stadium has a capacity for 10000 spectators and the club finished last season 9th in 3. Liga. The match will take place either on August, 2nd or August 3rd.

Uh, I probably looked at last years schedule.
Absolutely correct, the first round matches are from July, 29 to August, 1st.

One of my friends lives in Heidenheim, I believe he is going to the match!

What a disappointment... At 1-0 Werder, Marin takes a poor penalty that is saved, Heidenheim score from a well taken FK (although Wiese perhaps should have done better), then the 2-1 Heidenheim from shoddy defending by Werder.

    Das ist Werder Fussball....

Im not really surprised, to be honest. What really bothers me about this game, as a fan, is that since we're not in Europe this season, we were only going to be entered into 2 competitions (BuLi and Pokal) after 90 lackluster minutes, we're out of the latter. That means Werder only have 34 competitive fixtures this season....

We'd better look rested for every single one of them.

Ouch, ouch, ouch, this thread can be closed. :(

Big disappointment, the opponent did not show much (well, congrats for them, nice club, but they were not strong tbh.) and our players beat themselves. This remembers to some displays from last season and let one worry that we will be once more in the fight vs. relegation. :(

We didn't show much either though. I don't remember many real opportunities, just lots a few balls that rolled to the goal line and got cleared.

I went back and watched the highlights. It was shocking to see how poor Wolf was. The young Greek defender looked pretty good as did Schmitz, but Wolf was just being torn apart. Hopefully he just needs some time to get back into shape as Silvestre did (although ideally not half a season), but if this is all he has to offer then we better hope one of Merte, Naldo, or Proedl get healthy soon.

Marin behaves like a pr!ck. Missed one penalty and a distasteful kick at the Heidenheim player.

    Wolf was awful beyond words.

    A long season ahead.

Any comment on Lennart Thy as a starter?

A manager not having a clue what he is doing, a coach having problems to judge the performances of his players, a team doctor, who injures players, a man in charge of the supervisory board traveling around the world instead of having a clue what is going on, a marketing manager unable to bring new sponsors to the club, lazy players giving a f*ck about the club and its fans. :(

Individuals are unimportant in a situation like this.

But to answer your question. He was one of the few motivated players, but nonetheless showed a bad match.

I heard Ekici was very bad.

Lennart Thy got a "4" rating from sportbild, and thats the 3rd best rating in the team already

I had one weekend of holidays this summer. I am so glad I was able to miss this game.

Ok, I did not want to, but give a reply on individual performances:
Tim Wiese was the best Werder player on the pitch. A positive performance was also shown by Philipp Bargfrede and Sokratis. Markus Rosenberg and Marko Marin (except the pathetic penalty) did not play total BS. The rest did, that was far beyond BL standard. Ekici came in after about an hour and could not break the defense wall built by Heidenheim.

The atmosphere in Bremen gets more serious. After the match a group of 200 fans stopped the bus from leaving the stadium, sang chants against the players and the team management and cups of beer were thrown vs. the team bus. It has been a long time since this happened the last time at Werder, but it is not uncommon if a team totally sucks. So far the Werder fans were really nice and patient, but the players should not be surprised if they do not run and give all, that people, who travelled 800 km to the match are angry on them. This is no hatred as one player said, these people love the club, give a big part of their salary for supporting the players, honorate passion and fighting spirit. But if all these thing are not shown by players, who kicked the love of these fans with their feet, these players should not be surprised if the fans do not want to make a tea party with them.

I was very disappointed to hear that Werder last after returning from my holidays. But who was really surprised by it with Hunt and Borowski starting instead of Ekici, Arnautovic or Wesley?

I´ll be in the stadium against Everton tonight. Hopefully something changes immidiately.

According to the Worum Twitter-feed, the probably lineup for the Everton match is:

    Mielitz-Sokratis,Merte,Wolf,Schmitz-Bargfrede,Wesley,Trinks,Ekici-Arnautovic,Wagner

I don't understand how Wagner continues to get playing time, but whatever, TS needs to send a message to the team after the Cup exit.
