There are a couple articles claiming there is an American named Dexter Rosales on trial with A-League side Adelaide who also has interest from Western Sydney Wanderers.
Since there are quotes from the manager of Adelaide and some of the articles are on trustworthy sites I thinks it is worth mentioning, but:
These articles claim he is a former US youth national team player and has had stints with Ajax and Valencia. However, I cannot find evidence that he was ever with these clubs and a search for his name on the US Soccer site and the BigSoccer YNT forum doesn't yield any results. Furthermore, there is reference in the Wiki universe that there is no such player and that Dexter Rosales at Ajax was an internet hoax.
Anyone have any information on this guy that could help clarify the situation?

At best, this guy is probably inflating (massively) his resume to travel the world and get tryouts. At worst, a phantom. Even the high school portion of his bio should be easily verifiable online in the Internet era, and it's not.

Bummer, because Dexter is a cool name. Dating myself with this one, but can't resist...

Reds' mystery man a fantasy or fact?
Ajax say they have never heard of the lad, Valencia remain mum, and FIFA say they don't have any such player registered.
Adelaide's manager says the player was recommended to him, that he has spoken with the agent, and that this mysterious stranger is paying his own way for the trial and scheduled to arrive next week.

This site said he went to Miami Sunset High School. Also played for River Plate and a short stint in Colombia before going to Ajax......http://www.worldsoccerscouting.com/default.asp?p=Giocatori&show=detail&key=2190

Date of birth changes depending on what site you look at. I've seen July 7, July 9, and July 19, 1987

It reminds me of this story about a fake baseball player. Worth a read http://onmilwaukee.com/sports/articles/montaouswalton.html

I'm guessing the Herald Sun used that cutting edge research tool called "Google".

Funny that they admitted he is a hoax AFTER he didn't show up. Not sure what "Dexter" was going to get from this other than a trial, since he was paying his way to Oz.

He's the new Jackson Simc-Bluh! (Not sure I got that name right...)

Maybe it's because I haven't finished my morning coffee, but what isn't clear to me is whether this is an actual soccer playing completely fabricating his background, or whether it's a couple guys in some basement making up a human being. Was this an actual player trying to sneak his way into the A-League?

I had hoped that this was a real player with a doctored resume. Hard to imagine that a team wouldn't do a quick background check before handing out trials.
At least they noticed the problem before putting the guy into a match, unlike Southampton:
Manager Graeme Souness played Ali Dia in a Premier League match after the club received a phone call and endorsement from his "cousin" George Weah. He came on as a sub during a game with Leeds, and was so astoundingly terrible that he was subbed off again. And of course, he was no relation to Weah.

Anyway, its been a fun story to follow, so I'm glad I decided to start the thread. However, feel free to close it now that the full story is out.

Wait, Jackson Simc-Bluh wasn't real?! But I spent so much time searching for him on Bolivian soccer sites.

If this doesn't end up an episode of Leverage, I'll be pissed.

We need to petition TNT to get a soccer-related subject on a major dramedy.
