Well, you never know ... it could be a boring 0:0. ;)

Btw: I've just noticed that there's Ebay bids of more than € 400 for a ticket. Damn, what a relief that I can attend the game without having to pay that amount...

Well it wasn't a boring 0-0 tie but like most derby's it ended up in a draw 1-1in front of 15,700 fans. The first half ended up 0-0 and Vidosic broke the stalemate with a 47th minute goal with the assist coming from Bieler. Reisinger tied it up for Furth in the 57th minute.

Here was the initial starting lineup for Der Club:

    R. Schäfer - Diekmeier, Maroh, Pinola, Bieler - Reinartz - J. Judt, Kluge, Gygax - Vidosic, Eigler

    Subs as follows:

    76. Bunjaku for Gygax
    85. Mnari for Vidosic
    90. + 1 D. Reinhardt for Diekmeier

Good news for 1FCN is that St. Pauli defeated Mainz 2-0 which means that Nurnberg remains in 3rd place now only one point behind Mainz for that coveted second position and automatic promotion to the Bundesliga. Kaiserslautern won the Friday and Aachen lost on the road on Friday. Freiburg won and secured themselves a slot in next years Bundesliga. 1FCN plays at home this Wednesday against Osnabruck who are one spot outside of the relegation zone. 1FCN I believe winning their final 3 games should take over the second position since Mainz will be hard pressed to win all 9 remaining points.

Here is the classification after 31 matches

    Freiburg 64
    Mainz 54
    -------------
    1FCN 53
    -------------
    Furth 52
    Kaiserslautern 52
    A Aachen 49

Re: Der Club! The FCN thread 08/09 [R]

It was the expected hard-fought and intense derby (I attended it live at stadium, but didn't manage to take any pics this time). Fürth was better in the first half and got robbed of a clearly regular goal (that referee was a joke for a brisant derby), whereas the 2nd half was pretty even. With this draw, both clubs kept their promotion chances alive (thanx to St. Pauli's win over Mainz).

Although there had been officially sold only 3,000 tickets to FCN fans, I'd say that about 6,000 managed to enter the stadium.

Re: Der Club! The FCN thread 08/09 [R]

Midweek games this week and with todays results 1FCN clearly benefitted with Aachen defeating Kaiserslautern at home 1-0, and TSV 1860 Munich netting a tie on the road against Wehen, puts them 3 points out of relegation which may come in handy on the last week of the season when Der Club plays Munich at home. If Munich is safe by then life would be much easier that day for 1FCN. Other scores from today are: Rostock 3 Augsburg 3, Duisberg 1 Oberhausen 1.

Tomorrows starting lineup for the match against Osnabruck looks like this, good news is that Mintal and Boakye will be back from their suspensions:
    R. Schäfer - Diekmeier, Maroh, Pinola, Bieler - Reinartz - Kluge, Mintal, Gygax - Vidosic, Boakye. KO is 1730.

Standings after todays matches looks like this:

    Freiburg: 31 games 64 pts
    Mainz: 31 games 54 pts
    -------------
    1FCN: 31 games 53 pts
    -------------
    Furth: 31 games 52 pts
    Kaiserslautern: 32 games 52 pts
    A Aachen: 32 games 52 pts

Mainz is at home against Frankfurt. Furth is on the road against Champions Freiburg who may not field their big boys.

Well, if the guys from 1860 Munich lose the next game against the promotion contenders from Aachen (who still have a small chance after today's win), they might get in a position to need 1 point when they travel to Nürnberg. But tomorrow's home game against Osnabrück and especially the last away game in a sold-out Rostock stadium surely won't be easier (after Hansa once again dropped 2 points today)...

If FCN beats Osnabrueck today, it will "improve" 1860's position.

    At least until the weekend.....

Half time at the Easy Credit Stadion with Der Club up 1-0 thanks to a first half goal by Mintal in the 16th minute with Boakye getting the assist. Starting lineup for Nurnberg: R. Schäfer - Diekmeier, Reinartz, Pinola, Bieler - Mnari - Kluge, Mintal, Gygax - Eigler, Boakye

    Other scores at half time:

    Mainz 1 Frankfurt 0
    Freiberg 0 Furth 0
    Ahlen 0 Koblenz 0

That being said with the scores as they are Mainz is still ahead of 1FCN by one point with 57, and Furth now trails 1FCN by 3 with 53 points.

I watched the second half. FCN could and should have won by more.

But they won and that's the important part!

Re: Der Club! The FCN thread 08/09 [R]

I'm curious whether FCN will get some help from Fürth on Sunday (assumed that Oenning's team doesn't lose in Rostock) after they threw away their last chance in Freiburg (well, they still have a slim one). Somehow I've got the feeling that the guys from Mainz will get their first win over a probably unmotivated Fürth side since a very, very long time ... what means that FCN will have to play 2 "play off" games against Cottbus, Bielefeld, Gladbach or Bochum.

Like you said, if FCN doesn't lose in Rostock. Rostock has been playing some very motivated football recently.

They will not be easy to take points from.

Especially if FCN continues to squander chances like they did against Osnabrueck.

Re: Der Club! The FCN thread 08/09 [R]

Well although they did take a point away from Rostock it wasn't enough based on the Mainz result. 1FCN drew 0-0 in a match that only saw 6 shots on goal with Schafer only having to make one save. Furth figuring they didn't have a shot for promotion decided to screw over their Franken neighbors and lost at home 0-2 to Mainz which now gives them a 3 point lead over 1FCN and tied on GD. So unless Mainz loses at home against Oberhausen who are safe and have nothing to play for, they will retain the final automatic promotion slot to the Bundesliga. 1FCN has already qualified for the play off for promotion to the Bundesliga and next week are at home against 1860 needing a win and a Mainz loss to get that coveted second promotion slot. Good news for Der Club is that 1860 is basically safe from relegation as they are up by 3 points over the Osnabruk the 16th place team and have a favorable GD of 15.

    Here was the lineup and performance points from Kicker: R. Schäfer (3) - Diekmeier (2,5), Reinartz (2,5), Pinola (1,5), Bieler (3) - Mnari (3) - Kluge (4), Mintal (4,5), Gygax (4,5) - Boakye (3,5), Eigler (4)

    The following players were subbed:

    46. Vidosic (5) for Eigler
    81. Bunjaku for Boakye
    90. J. Judt for Kluge

If the Bundesliga ended today then 1FCN would be playing Arminia Bielefeld who is in 16th place with 27 points and a GD of -27, they are tied on points with 17th place Energie Cottbus who have a GD of -30. 15th place Borussia has 30 points with a GD of -23.

The last week of the season has those 3 teams playing the following matches:

    Cottbus-Leverkusen
    Arminia-Hannover
    Borussia-Dortmund

I guess we'll know by Saturday late afternoon who Der Club will be playing in the playoff unless a miracle occurs in Mainz!!

Fürth actually played pretty well until the 0:1, but didn't manage to score from best chances once again. Nearby they got robbed of a regular goal (like in the derby, it would have been the early 1:0) ... so I don't think that FCN can accuse them of having gifted the win to Mainz (although many Fürth fans surely weren't unhappy with the loss due to the rivalry and prospect of having another derby next season).

Re: Der Club! The FCN thread 08/09 [R]

Well it looks like Der Club will be taking on Energie Cottbus in the two leg playoff for promotion to the Bundesliga. 1.FCN took care of 1860 Munich 2-1 with Eigler scoring in the 30th minute on a Gygax assist and Mintal bagging a goal four minutes later with another Gygax assit. Mainz easily trashed Oberhausen 4-0 to finish in second and gain automatic promotion to the Bundesliga.

The promotion matches will be played on 28 May with Der Club on the road and then on the 31st at home, which is preferrable.

Cottbus in their last 5 games won 1 match drew 1 match and lost 3, and in their last 10 matches won 3 drew 1 and lost 6 matches. So obviously they are not playing the best of football of late. 1FCN won 3 matches and drew two in their last 5 games and in the last 10 won 7 matches, drew 2 and lost 1.

FCN should have the upper hand in that one! But they shouldnt underestimate Cotbus either, these guys are allways up for a fight I think, plus they have very deservably beaten Wolfsburg and Leverkusen at home lately, so its not like they cant play football either...

I am hoping for FCN tough! Would be much nicer to see them back in the BL then another year of Energie... ^^

I wouldn't be so sure. I expect 2 close games, but Cottbus are the favs for me (for many reasons - especially for psychological ones).

I hate Roth & Bader (pity that Hans Meyer can't take revenge for the shameful happenings before the Benfica game last season, a possible relegation clash between BMG & FCN was soooo close:) and dislike a part of the FCN fans ... but I'd surely not begrudge promotion to my brother & a few FCN friends. Nearby I don't mind having a BMG away game in front of my housedoor. :)
