José Amado García wins the marathon, with a new C.A. record of 2:26:24, and Guatemala wins the JCA in its return after being absent in 2010. This was special because the games were celebrated in Costa Rica and the hosts did everything they could to finish ahead of Guatemala -- many of the disciplines where chapines dominate (sailing, rowing, shooting, some swimming events, etc.) were not celebrated in this games. In addition, Erick Barrondo and co. did not participate as they are preparing for the upcoming World Championships.

Here is a very nice read about 20 of the most outstanding Guatemalan sportspeople of present times: http://www.prensalibre.com/noticias/TRIUNFADORES_0_884311584.html

Mirna Ortiz placed 2nd in Portugal, only behind Olympic champion Lashmanova. Another great performance for her. Erick Barrondo disqualified after 14km.

Barrondo disqualified after 17km when he was fighting for the Gold Medal vs. Russian competitor Alexander Ivanov. Too bad, it looked like he was going to win. Ivanov won the event and $60k in home soil, 3 1/2 minutes above WR. Daniel Quiyuch finished in the top 30, 3 minutes behind the winner.

Son tan aleatorias esas suspensiones. Todos "flotan", pero solo a algunos los amonestan.

Hebert Brol won the double trap in shooting, Kevin Cordón won the badminton singles title , and Juan Maegli came out on top on the laser, so the gold medal count for Guatemala is now at 4. 0 silver, 2 bronze.

Cordón and Maegli became the 2nd and 3rd athletes to win multiple gold medals for Guatemala in Pan American Games (Attila Solti was the first). Maegli is the most successful Guatemalan athlete in the history of the games, with 2 gold and 2 bronce medals.
