Trying to form their 'national" team and trying to emulate Catalonia and Basque Country -- I guess. Oh well....... Good luck to them. You don't have to copy everything from Europe!
Next month there should be more info. Right now the only thing we know about the Gold Cup is that the First match is going to involve Mexico in Pasadena.
Ives reporting that Chicago will get the final, beating out Miami and Dallas who are likely to be in competition for the semifinals. Based on the 2011 edition, each of the 13 stadiums got a double header and the Rose Bowl got the final on top of that. If that stays the same Mile High will either get 2 quarterfinals (with the Miami/Dallas semifinal loser getting the other two) or two group stage matches (all 4 teams of one group).
Not real interested in paying the high prices to watch Mexico kick the crap out of some minnow. If that's the case I'll probably pass (unless I can get a ticket to the second game separately somehow).
I don't blame you at all. I just think Dallas/Miami are more likely to get the Quarters. (Which would probably involve Mexico beating up on some mediocre team anyway.)
My hope is that Denver gets a group stage doubleheader for the U.S. group or the non-U.S./non-Mexico group. Those games I'd pay to see. The U.S. because, well, duh, and the non-Mexico/U.S. group games because they'll probably be fairly competitive.
I am guessing many of the tix for the Gold Cup at Sports A. Field will be available for far less than the expensive Hex game tix we just experienced.
Not very likely. I am willing to bet Utah, Portland, Hartford get the USA Group matches. Non Mex/US Group more than likely will be Houston, New Jersey, Baltimore. Pure speculation on my behalf but I think those are good guesses based on the info being leaked.
Yeah, I think there will be upper deck tickets. Will many countries not be sending their full strength squads (due to Confed Cup in the same summmer, and WCQ's)? That would make these games a bit less attractive as well.
No one is really expected to send their A squads. Maybe the minnows like Belize and Martinique but that is about it. Hence, Mexico would probably make the most economic sense since they can send a "B" squad and still get near sellout numbers.
Gold Cup games confirmed: http://www.goldcup.org/page/Splash Denver will host Mexico vs. Martinique and Panama vs Canada on July 14. So, as most people suspected, moving the venue to Mile High did get us one of the two marquee teams.
Season Ticket holders, check your inboxes regarding pre-sale from 14th to the 20th and a $5 discount.
I will be attending and am looking forward to it for a number of reasons: 1. to boo Mexico-- although, I will probably do this in the silence of my heart to avoid physical harm; 2. to get to see in person the play of some of our CONCACAF brothers since it appears the Rapids will not be in the Champions League again anytime soon; 3. to support Denver as a venue for future games of this kind. Anybody know how to contact the local Martinique supporters' group?
Tickets were for both games, can't really say anything about Mexico buying tickets and just going to their game. Canada v Panama was unreal boring but Mexico was fun.
