Well scouted by the greeks. They determined that RB was Spuds weakness and he is whipping in excellent crosses and CB's are doing OK, but not convincing, the problems is wide player cutting inside of LB is winning the ball.
Guardian: GOAL! Spurs 2-1 Pan (Dempsey 76') The American deserves that after one of his best performances for Tottenham! Walker whipped in a wonderful freekick from the right and Dempsey, having eluded his marker, powered his header past the keeper ... it crashed against the bar and then ricocheted off the hapless keeper's back and into the net. Technically that's probably an own goal but morally, Dempsey is on the scoresheet.
Dempsey!!! let me see if I can do it justice. Walker whips in an excellent free kick into the box. Dempsey makes the run from the top left of the box, wraps around all the defenders, and puts the ball powerfully past the keeper, but it hits the cross bar, bounces off the keeper and bounces back into goal. It will go as an Auto-Goal, just like last years wonder strike against Stoke. Where is IAD to tell us it is an own-goal. And just like that, Dempsey's ability to score important goals wins the day. The spuds are now through to the next round guaranteed. ManU goal, first win in 15 years or whatever. Liverpool goal. Juventus goal. Ghana goal...etc.
Too bad there's no such thing as scorekeepers' discretion in UEFA/EPL when it comes to goals vs own goals.
Dempsey off for Sig. Again, from The Guardian: 80 min: Dempsey is treated to a lusty ovation as he makes way, to be replaced by Sigurdsson.
Next time a Deuce supporter is in the White Hart Lane stands, can you do me a favor (I'll do it if I can get there this year). Anyway, Sing this Refrain please!!!! ALL WE ARE SAYING IS....GIVE - DEUUUUUUUCE - A - CHANCE!!!!
There is. If its going in its a goal, if not its an OG. It's at the person in the office's discretion whether the effort is going in or not.
This one's less confusing or controversial since the shot was never technically on target here. That's an own goal by any definition.
It's an OG. I believe, however, that Clint should be credited with an assist, since his "pass" led to the goal. We'll see.
I think that's a league to league thing. I believe the Premier League awards assists for that, but I'm not sure the Europa League does. (The Premier League also perhaps questionably awards assists for PK's drawn or fouls drawn that lead to direct free kick goals, which means that regardless of what they award here, Dempsey has technically registered an assist in each of his last four matches now.)
