I was thinking that maybe a thread of songs and videos dedicated to Kirk Urso would be good and maybe in honor of Mr. Urso we can come up with a chant for him that will be a crew tradition on the 15th minute. So If you have any songs feel free to post the them and if you have an idea for a chant share it.
    RIP #15

    Captain Kirk
    Once a star
    Now amongst the stars
    Always a star

Appropriate "Kirk Urso" in the Star Trek font with his image above it, maybe in the style of Captain Kirk.

(Best Star Trek cross-reference a non-fan could think of in just a few minutes.)

From 15:00-15:59 will be silence and tifo. After that, Yellow is likely to happen.

Singing Yellow on Saturday will cement its place in Crew lore. The background behind why we started signing it will quickly make it into our own YNWA. The song was meant to be sung for Kirk and the Crew.

This even makes it greater due to the fact that Beaker is on vocals.

The Crew put the LH in 5 foot circles on the field for Lamar. It would be cool if they put a 15 out in the midfield where Urso lined up for the kickoffs.

I also hope there is a cohesive plan put forth so there isn't confusion come 15:59.

Can we call it a 'minute of silence' instead of a 'moment'?

Someone should contact the reps from Coldplay if Yellow is the song we will be singing. You never know what they may do.

All of the separate groups and a few individuals will be doing their own visual displays. The plan seems to be to do it from 15-15:59 accompanied by a minute of silence. At the end of it, the plan is for everyone to join in a song. Right now the frontrunners appear to be Amazing Grace (people will know it, but its really just a one off) and Yellow (not as well known, but could be sung at the end of every game for the rest of the year so that we remember Kirk every game and not just a one off). Others are being considered.

There is other stuff in the works and I'm kicking around plans to get non-Nordeckian folks involved as well. A few of us have a meeting with some FO types today to hash it out some more.

If you have something planned that hasn't been discussed on FB or known to others, please email me bhoelzel[@]crewunion.com We just want to make sure we aren't stepping all over each other.

Pretty bummed I can't get to the game on Saturday. Will be at the Galaxy game on Wednesday though, hopefully some of the Urso tributes continue for future games.

I have to say I'm torn on which song to sing. On the one hand, a packed stadium singing AG in unison would be epic. Epically sad, too. Probably won't be a dry eye around. But I like the idea of Yellow if only because it can be repeated at subsequent home games. I supposed AG could, too, but then it would start to get a little maudlin. Yellow also might not get the rest of the stadium involved, too. AG is one of those songs that everyone loves/hates to sing along to.

My "band nerd" musical brain just kicked in at the possibilities for AG. Sung slow, then with a quicker tempo, add drums, then with no beat but using overhead clap for the beat, then back to drum beat. That way it can be respectful, but not too morbid. Also, the song crescendos upward, to hopefully a high level, passionate while still keeping the element of emotion (we see how Glory to Columbus worked out, right?). After all we will mourn, but then we can celebrate his life. But that's the deep south style in my blood I reckon (yes, some places still have a band marching out the church at the funeral's end!!)

Darn, when I saw a Coldplay song, I immediately thought of the lyrics, "Nobody said it was easy. It's such a shame for us to part." But I now see I'm wrong. I don't remember 'Yellow' too well.

Has anyone considered a Minute of Applause as opposed to a moment of silence?

For the past week, the Crew community as well as anyone touched by Kirk's life has been mourning his passing. Wouldn't it be more appropriate- given the type of person that Kirk was- to celebrate his life before the match?

I know it isn't as traditional as the moment of silence, but I feel like it is more representative of celebrating Kirk's memory.

    Crew plans:
    http://www.thecrew.com/news/2012/08/crew-announces-plans-honor-kirk-urso

    Nordecke plans:
Supporter's have a few plans as well. There are a number of tifo displays being made, while we have enough help for the one that will be displayed in 101 HSH is looking for as many hands as they can to make memorial two sticks. If you'd like to help they'll be pumping out as many as they can Friday night at Ruby's.
The big things we want everyone to be aware of and spread the word about are as follows:
    • Please remember to wear black to Saturday’s match. The idea is to completely black-out the Nordecke.
    • From 15:00 to 15:59 The entire Nordecke will observe a moment of silence in memory of Kirk. There will be Tifo displays during this time, but all chants, songs and drumming will stop for the entire minute.
    • At 16:00 the entire Nordecke will sing “Yellow” by Coldplay, in memory of Kirk. Lyrics will be distributed prior to the match, but everyone is encouraged to familiarize themselves beforehand.
    • After “Yellow” the entire Nordecke will chant “Columbus Till I Die” 15 times.
Lyrics to Yellow can be found here. The Crew is helping us with this and we'll have some speakers up front to at least get us going in tune and at tempo.

It'd be great if non-Nordecke fans could join in the Nordecke tribute, if at all possible.

    I'd say yellow is perfect.

On another note, this is one i really think this a good one (not for the game but just as a song of remembrance. )

Any chance we can get the FO to pass out cards upon entry?

I think it should be sung at the 16th min of every home game the rest of the year, and the best way to make sure that happens is to get all fans to know its happening.

Would someone be willing to record this special tribute to Kirk? I am unfortunately not going to be able to make the game because I am out of town but would like to see how he is celebrated from the lens of a Columbus Crew fan, as if I could be there too.

    It would be much appreciated.

The whole song? Not just chorus, or verse 1 and chorus or some other combo? I suddenly got a bit nervous while I'm listening to the song right now. I just hope it goes mostly fine with everyone following along.
