Hi all, As a long-time poster on the women's boards, Redcard gave me the go ahead to post here. I will be walking across the US this spring and summer to raise funds and awareness to fight breast cancer. Details are below, I will post updates along the way. Thanks for your support, Ron K/DCUPopeLilly http://www.trailjournals.com/roadtothecure/ - - - - - - - - - - - - I'm at it again! I am starting out from Cape Henlopen, DE this Saturday, March 1st, to walk across the United States to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer. My online journal can be found at http://www.trailjournals.com/roadtothecure/ . I'm raising funds for Komen for the Cure, a 25 year-old grass roots breast cancer organization founded by a woman who lost her sister to this disease. You can donate through my walk online at http://www.firstgiving.com/roadtothecure/ , and find out more about Komen at http://www.komen.org/ . I am also promoting awareness and detection: Women over 40 should have an annual mammogram and clinical breast exam, and perform a monthly self-exam. Women 20-39 should have a clinical breast exam every three years and perform a monthly self-exam. Men can get breast cancer too and should see a doctor if there are any lumps or persistent changes in the chest area. I will be walking between the American Discovery Trail endpoints, but varying from it significantly in spots to keep the walk to six months. I figure to go through Delaware; Maryland; DC; West Virginia; southern Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois; central Missouri; northern Kansas, Colorado, Utah, and Nevada; and northern/central California. If anyone along the route is able to offer logistical assitance or help with media contacts, please let me know and thanks in advance. My inspiration for doing this is a dear college friend who was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2004, then was told last summer that it had metastasized in her bones and lungs and that she had months to live. She's a fighter and is still going strong, but obviously her future is very uncertain. I had been lucky to make it through 36 years without someone close to me being faced with a life-threatening illness at such a young age, and I had never done any of my previous long-distance trips for anyone but myself. Seeing how she and her family has suffered, and knowing there are about 180,000 new diagnoses every year in the US alone, I decided it was time to do something for someone else. Good on you Ron....I lost my sister to Breast Cancer this past October. The saddest day of my life. It's late right now but I'll come visit again and definitely contribute. TTM
I lost my mom to cancer when I was 15, and 10 years later, almost to the exact day of her death, I had to undergo surgery for skin cancer on my face, followed by 30+ radiation treatments. So, Ron's trek means a lot to me, too.
Thanks TallTower and RedCard. Nice to know the walk means toothers what it means to me. I've reached Annapolis, almost 100 miles in 5 days. Will reach DC Friday and stay through the weekend. Ron
That's AWESOME Ron! My cousin is currently fighting Breast Cancer and I am walking the 3 day in her honor! I will be thinking about you and your feeties!!!
Just a bump and update - I've reached London, Ohio - 730 miles in 39 days. Journal: http://www.trailjournals.com/roadtothecure/ Donate: http://www.firstgiving.com/roadtothecure/ Ron

LOL. But you look waaaay less angry in the pink wig. I was looking at some old Norway photos and found the one of you in the Sam's Army from ... 95, 96 maybe? I was surprised you'd be on gettyimages. I was like, no ********ing way ...
Reached Topeka, Kansas and the 1600 mile mark. All is well. Ron K http://www.trailjournals.com/roadtothecure/
And yes, finished on October 11th after 7+ months (225 days) and almost 3600 miles. (Tried inserting a picture without luck )
Congratulations Ron. We are proud of you! Almost 1 year to the day (Oct 12, 2007 may she rest in peace) that my sister passed so it had special meaning to me. Thank You.
