    As per goff..

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs...a-vs-ac-milan/2012/04/02/gIQAPdcIrS_blog.html

D.C. United will play a major Italian club July 28 at FedEx Field in the first match of a doubleheader that is also expected to feature Chelsea against AC Milan, multiple sources close to the negotiations said Monday.
    -----------

Usually I am against mega-friendlies at FedEx (didnt go to the Real Madrid game a couple years back) but a double-header peaks my interest... ill probably be going to this one.

Hate me if you must, but I'm gonna admit I'm instead going to the game in Baltimore. I have no interest in seeing the second half of the double header, and I'm assuming tickets will be for both. Between that and the distance, it's not worth my trouble. The only Italian team I even remotely follow is Lazio, and it's not going to be them.

Still wouldn't matter, cause my 2 year old isn't going to a night game. He can sweat it out at a 1pm game and take a nap afterwards. :D I'm a casual Liverpool fan, so it's a no brainer for me.

Good for United though, great to get some ticket revenue in the stream.

Is this before or after Euro 2012?

I don't care. I go to the friendlies because it's DC United. The Portsmouth friendly was one of the best times I've had at a United match - entirely because of their supporters coming over and starting a friendly song battle.

    Just as long as:
    1. No DC United player gets injured
    2. It's entertaining
    3. The team makes money (which I'm sure they didn't off the recent Everton and Ajax attendances)

I'm categorically against mid season friendlies, but if the profits from them allow Chang to sign above max salary players like Boskovic, De Ro and Salihi ... then by all means go ahead with it.

The "Fedex Experience" is awful, and I am kind of bummed to hear all of these matches happening on the same day. With that said it would be pretty cool to see Lazio...if that were the team they were playing.

Doubt I would go to the AC Milan / Chelsea match if is was not part of the double header.

The FedEx experience will be much better with the removal of 4,000 more seats.

So what your saying is... pretty soon they will be down to 25,000 or so.

After they remove the upper deck, I have them removing the seats Snyder originally added that made it a tight fit for soccer. Eventually, seats will be removed on the club level and much of that will be turned into an observation deck.

I don't think it matters. Most Internationals won't be available because of training for the Euros if it's before, or they get an extended break after the Euro's that usually cuts into the first week or two of preseason.

    Thx,

    Jay!

While I'd much rather watch DC United (and Chelsea), I'm going to stay local and watch Liverpool/Spurs. I've seen Chelsea v. Milan twice already and I really am not interested in ever setting foot in FedEx field again.

Why on earth would they schedule this for the same day as the one in Baltimore. I would think the MD Stadium Authority would have raised a red flag on that kind of scheduling ******** up. Lost revenue!

How? I'm guessing they both sell out - or come awful close.

You can wonder why the Redskins & DC United would schedule the game when they did but I'm sure the MD Stadium Authority has no authority over it.

Of course if you were being sarcastic, pretend this post doesn't exist.

I have my doubts that either will sell out.

I know they don't do the scheduling, but they try to manage events in a such a way that it maximizes revenue for the state. I am saying I'm surprised there wasn't a friendly phone call from one of the higher ups in the MSA to whomever scheduled that doubleheader.

I don't know the exact timing of when the games were finalized but i'm thinking that the Redskins don't even have a reason to accept a call from the MSA. I'm sure they knew there was a game in Baltimore & probably didn't care much. The timing has to do more with the European teams than what potential competition there is.

The only reason DCU might take MSA's calls is if MSA is still seriously in the running as a stadium partner.

from goff a few days ago:

*Final details concerning United’s proposed friendly against an Italian club July 28 at FedEx Field should be completed by next week. My understanding is that United will play Juventus in the first game of a doubleheader featuring Chelsea vs. AC Milan.

Let me try this again (3rd try!). That's a match I can go to. DCU. At RFK. Not Fedex.
