Good for DC, looks to be in a new location. Im happy to see it fits 20,000 when i look at parks like live strong sporting park i think they are held back somewhat by there smaller capacity, not to say livestrong isnt great or anything just good to see a larger capacity.
Awesome news. DCU always had great fans and a new facility should be just the catalyst to kick-start that franchise back from the doldrums. Here are a couple of renders...
$150 million stadium at Buzzard Point which is near Nationals Park. I don't have much more to say until my ass is in a seat watching teams warm-up.
Ummmmmm, is it April 1? No, seriously. I'm in stunned silence. I can't even focus on the US game now.
A handful of blocks away from the Nationals stadium. It would be a great spot, though I am sure people are going to complain it isn't close enough to a metro. (whining ninnies)
As a Revs fan, can I trade our record this year and borderline playoff chances for your 10 pts. and that gorgeous, franchise-anchoring stadium? Pretty please?
so if this happens, the non-SSS teams would include two of the alleged premier clubs in the league (Seattle + NYC*) plus another part of the Cascadia movement. Seattle New York Chivas New England Vancouver *- MLS will insist that it's premier)
All MLS brethren, please help us out and vote positively on the Washington Post poll. There is going to be opposition to this and the soccer haters will come out strong. Please help crush them in this poll. http://www.washingtonpost.com/local...315-11e2-ae43-b31dc363c3bf_story.html?hpid=z1
I don't know ... I read that long article and it sure seems like there's a lot that can still go wrong here.
It looks like a great step forward, both for the club and for the league overall; but I find myself less than ready to get too excited until the deal is 100% done.
But the streetcars... It really doesn't appear to be more than going public with the deal that was rumored a while ago.
14 minutes walk from Waterfront and Navy Yard Stations, by any standard thats at least "not bad" and in comparison to most cities its pretty great. Yeck, even Capital bike share is not far off with their stations, If the redevelopment is anywhere close to successful, that'll be there too. If it goes through(i know) its potential is very much in line with Houston.
At least going to a Nats game, there are also vendors and music and stuff as you approach the stadium, so the walk from the metro seems shorter. You're "engaged" in the experience, for lack of a better word. And when you get inside: Shake Shack. Mmmmmmm . . .
As much as I liked snickering at DC's expense because of their dirty crumbling venue( I'm a Red Bull fan after all) its good for the league if every team has a place to play and call it their permanent home. I hope this gets done, it looks nice. (but RBA looks better ) Seattle and Vancouver are at least a good fit attendance wise, are in a great location, and retain all revenue for their games (at least I think the Caps do) The revs got revenue, but need a place that fits them, closer to Boston. City FC is gonna have an uphill battle that RB was lucky enough not to have to go through (they were originally going to try to be NY2 but Metro was for sale and had a plan in New jersey to be a part of and here we are.) This might well be the most difficult fight for a stadium in the league ever, YS and maybe a few side games in columbia will have to do. CUSA, is a mess but one that should it get itself together (re: get a new owner) can be apart of USC's plans for a new stadium. we're getting closer people with one more battle hopefully down food good.
Location's not horrible, as it's at least transit accessible. I won't bring my views on $150M in public money going to the stadium too much than saying, they could have just cut a deal on rent/concessions with the city @ RFK. #boondoggle. That being said, I do love the sketches and am happy for DC fans.
