looks like dario is going to play for hrvatska..i think he knows he wont get into argentina's squad thats why he has accepted our invitation..i dont no anything about this player but to me he will have to prove how good he is in ajax before i consider playing him..we have quality strikers in klasnic petric olic and hopefully eduardo in september..personally i think diaspora players should want to play for hrvatska first not second choice..guys like the kovac brothers and klasnic all chose to play for croatia not because germany did not want them..same thing goes for petric rakitic and simunic..some will say eduardo does no have any croatian blood in him..to me he is a rare exception as he lived in hrvatska since he was 15 and played for the croatian youth teams..he learned to speak croatian fluently and at an early age made croatia his #1 choice from 20 years of age..he could have chose brazil as he is definitely good enough to make there team but he didnt he chose hrvatska..

Olic- can't finish. His last two goals for the National Team have been empty nets (vs England in qualifer and vs Germany). He works hard but not the most skillful forward.

Petric- Except for the game-winning goal vs England (yes, a big goal!), he can't score against anyone except Malta or Faroe Islands.

Klasnic- will be 30 at 2010 World Cup. That's not old, but not young either for a forward who has gone through what he has.

Eduardo- Even after all he's gone through, he'll probably still wind up being the best forward. Still, there's no guarantees as he's to if he will ever reach the same level (knowing his work ethic, chances are he will). He'll miss at least the first two WC qualifiers and likely more.

Kalinic- 20 years old and great potential.

If Cvitanich can help, great. He won't bleed the colors of Croatia like Eduardo, but when you're a nation with only 4.5 million, it's hard to be selective. If they had another legitimate forward on the team, they probably defeat Turkey (game never should have gone to overtime). If he scores the game winner in September against England in Maksimir, he'll be a national hero. :D

you say that now but when september comes im sure you will be watching the game against england..:D i agree with you though markovic should be trying to concentrate on making the hnl a better league instead of recruiting players of 2nd or 3rd generation hrvati who have no connection or love for hrvatska..

Agree with MetroFever, but a point concerning Olić: He isn't indeed a natural striker, more like a left winger and very useful for our team. Of course, a player like him, who runs sprinting in highest speed the line up and down, doesn't have the needed concentration for ""execution". So, what we need is a real center forward.

Petrić is a "playing" forward, he is not the typical "killer" only waiting for scoring opportunities, but at EC he was not in top form, probably because of his injury before, which was not heeled 100%. Nonetheless, Petrić is a very good player.

Klasnić is the so much needed "killer", in fact a "natural born killer", but you know his health problems in the past and Biilić somehow did not believe him. I think that Bilić is the best coach we ever had and one of the best at all, but he was wrong with Klasnic, it was a fault not to let him play from first minute, especially against Turkey who has such a shaky defense. Well, it's over anyways, but the sorrow and anger is still deep.

Eduardo is a very gifted striker, in fact he has it all, hopefully will be back soon, really hate this Martin Taylor!

Kalinić is a great young talent but prone to muscular injuries, like many athletes of sprinter type. Hopefully he will train his muscles more to stabilize them.

Cvitanich could really be a strengthening for our national team. As far I heard, he can also play very good combinatorial, intelligent football and has much dynamics, together with skillful Eduardo and speedy Olić on the wing, this could be a very interesting pair. And there are also Modrić, Srna and Rakitić to "feed" them from midfield, ..., yes, this could be very effective Croatian-Brazilian-Argentine cooperation :)

I agree with both cromagnum and MetroFever, Markovic should really be focusing on making our training systems and the league better that hustling diaspora to play for the team. However I do think that Cvitanic will be making an appearance pretty soon because because our attack is quite inconsistent (baring Eduardo).

At first, I liked the idea of the best player of the Argentinian league in the last season playing for our national team. They said his father and grandfather also told him Croatia or nothing else. But recently I read an interview with him saying he understood the competition in the Argentinian NT was too rough for him and decided to play for Croatia because it's a better "career choice" for him. Then he compared his situation to Kovač brother's, Rakitić, Klasnić and Eduardo. First of all, he vaguely knows the situation in our squad and can't say things that they decided to play for Croatia for the benefit of their careers. For Eduardo he might have better arguments, but the fact is that he came to Croatia at a tender age of 15, learned Croatian, became a Croat and he currently breaths for Croatia, I know that. He never dwellt about taking Croatian citizenship and being willing to play for Croatia. Remember Bilić's words: "Eduardo is the best guy you'll ever know". And everyone that know him say that. Naturally he is still Brazilian, he was born there and spent still the bigger part of his life there. Nevertheless, he finally grew up here and Croatia and Dinamo are to thank that he's become the player AND person he is today.

Currently ambivalent about Darío Cvitanich (still don't acknowledge him as 'Cvitanić').

What do You expect from a guy who lived for 24 years in Argentina, where he was born and grew up, from first days in school up to now, the first kiss, the first love and is asked by an Argentine newspaper about his feelings?
That he says: "Oh yes, my heart is full of Croatia, as a baby I dreamed to play for them and Argentina is sh1t" ??
Of course he won't say this and it would be a lie.

But I can tell You, if he is good enough and really finds a place in our team and then comes to the pitch and sees all the fans around in their red white checked shirts, singing "u boj u boj za narod svoj", "malo vas je malo vas je pičkice", "zovi samo zovi" etc .., and learns what these words mean and meant in our history, I'm sure, he won't stay indifferent towards our squad, which is then also his.

I didn't like that he made it look like the Croatian NT was a bunch of strangers playing for the team because they couldn't play elsewhere. That was utterly stupid from him to say.

Didnt this guy come out and say a year ago that he wouldnt be able to locate Croatia on a map? Im all for letting people do what "their heart desires" but cmon man, if you cant find Croatia on a map, you shouldnt be playing for Croatia. Nothing against the guy, Im sure hes a great guy, but this is ridiculous. Its like Chris Kaman going to play for the German national basketball team. Dario said it well when he said it was a good career choice for him. My question is, how is he going to communitcate with the other players? Does any one on Croatia know Spanish that well?

Yes, that's a problem because the name doesn't fit to the space where our country is located.
A solution would be to conquer the neighbors so that's enough space on the map to write the full name CROATIA.

Hmmh, difficult, maybe instead of practicing together, our players should learn Spanish? Or he learns Croatian?
The most important words should be: sranje, jbem ti pi mat, nabijem ti ga na qurac.
I think that's pretty enough in the beginning for communication between our players :p

Some of his recent comments won't endear him to loyal fans. He has to be a little bit more diplomatic than what he said in a recent radio interview:

    http://au.fourfourtwo.com/news/80280,cvitanich-pins-his-future-to-croatia.aspx

"I have to think that this could be my only chance to play in a World Cup. That train passes only once and you have to jump on it."

"It would be like a dream to play in the qualifiers and the World Cup. With Argentina that was almost impossible. I look at it as if I am going to play for another team, but the emotion will remain the same."

Second choice or no second choice, as long as he's not Prso!

That's what's used for the refs and rivals.

Cvitanich, I don't like you much so far. He thinks he's gonna be the superstar in the team. Croatia is not Kazakhstan, you know. The world has seen we have plenty to choose from. The only reason why we would need him is to expand the choice.

The striking options look pretty crappy at the moment. Klasnic has been a bust at Nantes, Budan is always injured, Mandzukic and Kalinic are amatures so that only leaves Olic and Petric. Cvitanich is gona get more playing time in the new year with the departure of Huntelaar so it will be interesting to see how he does. I dont like the guy but im not too proud to accept him in the team, i'd rather see us win.

well i dont think he will be playing for us as according to fifa he is not eligible because it is his great granfather that is croatian and a person can only represent another country if his granparents or parents are from that country..rukavina has been playing very well for panathiakos but beside him are depth is weak..hopefully kalinic or mandzukic can step up for there clubs this year as we sure could use another good youg striker..

it sounds like Cvitanic views this matter as switching clubs and not thanking his lucky stars in representing his country
