He's too timid (just like the rest of the team) and just needs to freaking shoot when he has the chance...

I think it was him towards the river end and he had 3 chances to shoot before shooting, but then when he does he skies it...

Stop dribbling the damn ball and just put it in net.

I don't think people are ohmygodgetmeapaperbag panicking.

Me personally, I'm actually a little upset at the Union front office, our roster is currently at what? 22 players without Ruiz I think.

Mwanga has shown that off the bench he's a good player, great even, however he hasn't really shown much when he's started, to me at least.

With Ruiz on his way out, Mwanga pretty much will be handed the starting job and partnered up with Le Toux. Given how Le Toux has been playing that means that Mwanga will pretty much have to be our scoring threat. Something that in all honesty I'm not sure he's fully ready for at this stage in his career.

OMG this is great, we have the DM / LT combination back that has resulted in so much this past year - proves why we don't need ruiz.

This thread is why you just cannot bring Soccer to people who have done nothing but watch EPL all of their lives. They expect way too much.

Yes! Too many times he gets a touch and shoots it, he needs to just one-time it. Several times he took a touch when it gave that defender an extra split second.

This is partly due to most of our players not having any confidence in their weaker foot. Players will take the extra touch to get the ball on their strong foot................and that gives the defense and goalies that extra second to recover and close the space/get into position.

Perfect example of the kind of striker we need is the guy TFC just signed. His one-touch goal against the Timbers on Saturday is what we're missing from our strikers.

Nyassi's goal from Friday is a good example too. Pass into the box, and BOOM, one touch to dent the net before Dragon can cut the angle down. If he takes a touch there, Mondi cuts the angle and alters the shot and can prevent the goal/make a save/have a better chance at stopping the shot.

Mwanga is getting there, but we all forget that he's still developing. Some games he flashes that killer instinct (see Galaxy Home, Rapids Away, Chivas Home) and other times he shows his lack of confidence and experience (See Rapids Home, Quakes Away, RSL Home). It's going to take time, we need to be patient with him.

I think come tomorrow when it fully sinks in that he is now going to be starting every day for the foreseeable future, he's going to realize he needs to step it up. With Ruiz gone, we are going to see a much different Danny Mwanga.

Remember, Ruiz was our leading goal scorer with 6 (7?). DM is right behind him so I'm personally not that worried. I think his confidence is going to go way up.

I haven't ready anything today that says we are getting anyone to replace Ruiz. All that has been announced today is that Ruiz officially signed a multi year contract with Veracruz.

So as of right now, for tonights game and probably Saturdays, Dany Mwanga is the starting forward.

This. But I think it applies to everyone from the midfield position forward, not just Danny, with the exception of Torres.

"You MISS 100% of the shots you don't take." <----- Wayne Gretzky

I'd say our boys should heed this statement by The Great One. TT even mentioned Gretzky the other night in an interview with Glen Davis on Davis' radio show. The topic? What advice would TT give to young players aspiring to be strikers?

The Philadelphia Inquirer's Marc Narducci is also reporting that the Union are looking to sign a young international striker to effectively replace Ruiz; this young player may or may not be Saprissa's Josue Martinez, who the Union were rumored to have made an offer for last week.

Just another reason why i think danny is highly overrated. He has flashes of brilliance but other than that I dont see it. People are talking about him going to Europe and playing for the USMNT. Nope. That was so frustrating.

Instead of Ooooo-Dan-Ny-M-Wanga. We need to change the song to:

    Please-Shoot-It-M-Wanga!

I woke up this morning STILL wondering why he didn't take that shot?!?!?

Danny is young. Having came through the US "college" system he is even younger compared to other countries youngsters. Thankfully, with all the "academy" set ups, it seems that the US is moving towards reducing the importance of college soccer in these guys advancement of their careers - when you see things like last night, it is all just inexperience, nerves, unsure of what to do etc etc. Confidence may also be playing a part - when was the last goal Danny scored? He had a few "misses" last week, and he may be thinking someone else is always in a better position to score, especially with the ball naturally on his left foot at that point.

If you think back to the Toronto game - his confidence is high, we are winning 5-2, and a similar "attack" is unfolding - Danny puts it away easily instead of maybe seeing if he can get it to LeToux to "break LeTouxs famine". This time, he chose the other option and it was the wrong choice.

Danny has raw talent. I don't think he is "lazy or not wanting it" as others put it - he is just young. He needs time to learn, and i don't think that is as a starter right now.

I'll agree with you that he is young, but I can't agree with the statement I bolded. He's a striker who scored 14 goals in 18 games one season in College. When he's 1 v 1 with the keeper I would HOPE he knows what to do, otherwise we have wasted a #1 pick and lot of time.

There's a huge difference between MLS and college. Like every other level (especially in countries like the US and UK where "size" is very important) - he probably bulldozed everyone. He isn't going to be able to do that this time, and he will know it. Look back at the earlier chance when the Chicago defender had a great tackle - the odds are that doesn't happen in College and he scores. The "experience" comes in decision making. Sometimes if you have no time to think you do the right thing. The play at the end happened so slowly that he probably changed his mind multiple times about what to do. Again, since he is so big and strong, at college, it probably doesn't matter what he does.
