I was arguing in the other thread that we should release all the photos and get it all out in the open, but now I'm not so sure.

Can we at least prosecute the mother********ers in the pictures (if we haven't already), so that when the pictures leak (which they will, sooner or later), we can point to our justice system and say "that guy is doing hard time at Leavenworth right now"?

What did you think were in those photos to begin with?

******** that. Torch em and hang them from a bridge that crosses the Euphrates River, old school style.

I honestly did not think there would be ritualized rape photos. I've seen some of the photos from the Rape of Nanking, and it absolutely sickens me to know that my nation's military has similar documentation of file.

I almost want to assume this general is straight up lying.

I do as well but I doubt he is lying. Truly disgusting.

This is not a contest of who can be a larger scumbag. I do not want my government participating in rape and taking photos.

Exactly. The only thing keeping us from being terrorists is that we have so many people objecting to this kind of behavior.

Prosecuting the participants is one thing, but I'd like to see this chased up the chain of command. There's no way in hell these were isolated incidents by a few bad apples.

I can't believe this could very far up the chain. No way in hell would Bush condone this. If he knew about it, he would have put a stop to this. I have to believe this was just a rogue group or something

In light of recent discoveries about Bush and his holy war, I don't think you can completely discount the possibility.

Oh yea, I also think the Maj Gen who described the pictures after his President refused to release them deserves a punch in the face.

The real people this is being kept secret from are the citizens of the USA, not the Arab world. Most of the people this has happened to have been released long ago, and they have already told the stories of what happened to them.

Too late. There's a blog out there that has a couple of pictures. The naughty bits are pixillated, but 2 I saw show oral sex, one with a male Iraqi and one with a female Iraqi, and one shows a guy with something shoved up his butt.

Those are old pictures. Not the new pictures. As I just noted.

I guess I have a short memory as well; I do recall hearing about some of these pictures before. I guess I blocked it out.

EDIT: Knave beat me by a minute!
Hmmm. We know already that Bush approved sexual humiliation. I guess it's a question for philosophy students how responsible Bush is for the fact that some soldiers sexually humiliated them "too" much.
Yeah, the one thing we've all learned over the last 8 years is that way, way, WAY too much stuff gets classified because it's embarassing politically, not because it's dangerous militarily.

Nothing has changed between yesterday and today. Nothing at all. So this shift in your opinion is completely groundless. You're just queasy because now you know what might be in there, while before you just assumed things. But that queasiness is exactly why the photos should be released - it's called fessing up and having to face yourself for what this country has done. If I were a Catholic I'd call it a form of confession. If we ever want to be taken seriously as a moral entity again, then we in this country have to come clean. Period.

The problem with going ballistic on the perpetrators (which I'm all for) is that this isn't exactly new. People have seen and repressed the photos. What do we do with those folks?

    The whole thing is ********ed.

I remember 20 or so odd years ago when the argument started about deploying women as combat troops in the US military and the argument against it was that the potential existed for female US troops to be raped by opposing forces if captured.

Who knew 20 years later that it would be US troops doing the raping?
