George Best's consistency is definitely not great enough to win top 10. Zico was not that bad in WC 1982. He had to play in the most diffilcult group while Zidane didn't significantly better than Zico in his performance in WC 2006.
No, Zico was definately excellent in WC '82 - I suppose his consistency is questioned in that tournament but he provided several magical moments. He was probably at times unfairly hampered by Gentile in the Italy game too. Yeah I voted largely on peak form myself (not sure about others) and I felt Best was remarkable enough to place that high but I wouldn't consider him any higher than I put him definately. Some people in Britain say he was the best ever but I wouldn't go that far.

Just to confirm - you wanted Yashin and Shevchenko in your final selection rather than Walter and Rivera (who were listed when you brainstormed your players by era)? I'll assume Yashin and Sheva in (I'm sure you meant to include Yashin) and not the other 2 unless you say otherwise.
Thanks mixed it up a bit ... Not sure about Xavi, Sheva, CR - decided to cut Shevchenko. While I think Shevchenko was a better player for most part of his career than Xavi I feel it's necessary to include a player from the EC/WC winning Spanish side. Should be correct now.
OK, thats great - the latest overall ranking should be up fairly soon. Counting the players in my top 50, I had only one less playing in 2005 than in 1965 but this may be a bit misleading as the top 10 has more playing in 1965 and the bottom 10 (41-50) more in 2005.
You seem to be rather 90s focused including players like Klinsmann, Weah, Hagi, Savicevic, Sammer, Brian Laudrup and Cantona. For my surpise no Rivaldo and Romario in the Top 50 ... very interested to hear your reasoning why you took above players over the 2 Brazilians.
Yeah the question is does that relate to the players playing when I was 10-20 years old or were there really so many top players playing then? Again though, not one 90's player (if Zidane's prime is considered later anyway) in my top 10. For every 50's/60's/70's player near the top of my rankings I can see a clear reason to put them so high, but I do have a clutch of 80's/90's players in the middle of my top 100 I think. If I used your method I'd definately end up with too many 90's players in my top 50 and top 100! I genuinely do feel there were a lot of excellent star players playing then though, more so than now, but that most of them fell short of the level of the previously established top legends overall. Yeah Rivaldo and Romario were certainly top players - for one thing in my opinion the middle of the top 100 is incredibly tight whichever order it is put in. Perhaps I rate pure penalty-box goalscorers a little lower than others do in comparison to playmakers/dribblers/creative genius type players, so though I have Romario at 56 with no points I had Gerd Muller at 30 nearly 20 places lower than you and some others. Romario could certainly fashion chances for himself and interact with his strike partner very well, but he didn't tend to dribble past a few players before playing a team-mate in with a 40 yard pass. Rivaldo did exceptionally well at Barcelona at the end of the 90's especially - he scored a lot of goals and did have great vision and great technique on his left-side. Again I think it's a comparison between players with different star qualities but I can certainly see a case to go with Hagi as a better playmaker, B Laudrup as quicker and more creative in general play etc. Weah was 1995 WPOTY though and Savicevic was nicknamed 'il genio' or 'genjie which means genius in Italian and I assume Yugoslavian/Serbian. Klinsmann was actually a complete striker and Cantona was a legend in England so these players all have great credentials. Sammer won the 1996 Balon D'or too. I'm not anti-Brazilian though - I have 16 of them in the top 100 and 4 in my top 16 including 1st. Romario and Rivaldo are doing pretty well in the poll so far though and I wouldn't think I have enough of a case to change your mind - well maybe if you watch the '94 Champions League final involving Savicevic and Romario (but that's just one game and Romario did go on to win the World Cup that year though Yugoslavia of course couldn't take part so no Savicevic).

Thanks Cirdan and 4-3-3, I'll have the rankings adjusted shortly. I think that's 3 votes in a row where Pele wasn't first now, but he still has a nice lead. Cruyff has a couple of first place votes and Maradona has 3 now I think. EDIT Just checked it's Cruyff with 3 first places and Maradona two, but Maradona has more points with more second places behind Pele and less 4th or 5th places.
