There is a group of us interested in a trip to the Czech Rep early August to take in a game or two from the Czech league. We did a similar trip to Germany in May, which was fairly simple to arrange seeing as I have a reasonable grasp of the language and tickets can be bought online. Now we interested in going further afield and CR (or Slovakia) looks good. Practially, this would mean we'd fly into one of Prague/Brno/Bratislava and go on from there. However, I have no idea about the logistics. Are tickets readily available or do games sell out? Can you buy them online or is it a case of going to the ticket offices. I don't know any Czech and it isn't the easiest of languages to guess at so finding my way around the websites isn't easy! Any ideas/experiences would be a great help, thanks, Chris
You will be able to purchase tickets at the stadium on game day. Some games between Slavia and Sparta come close to selling out. Also, some important games near the end of the season almost sell out. I'll post a link to the schedule when it is released. If you go to a game in Prague you will have the option of watching Slavia, Sparta, Zizkov, and maybe Bohemians 1905 (if they get promoted).
you can watch Bohemians even if they don't get promoted. Currently in Div 2, but with a promotion six-pointer to be played tomorrow, they are currently (I believe) the 2nd best supported team in the country. I may be biased, but I say a game there would be better than seeing Slavia fans rattle about up at the Strahov. It's also a bit easier to get to, being on a tram route from the centre. Zizkov's even easier. You can walk to a game there from the centre (or also catch a tram directly past if you are feeling lazy). When does the schedule come out, by the way? I may pop over again myself in September.
I would second the Bohemians vote, well worth going to. I'm a bit biased towards Sparta, but if you want a fun game, I would suggest going to see Sparta play either Brno or Banik Ostrava. Tickets are never a problem, the word is listek, or for two-dve listky (write it on a piece of paper and hand it to them is a good idea from Richard). I think the schedule comes out in July, but not sure. Sparta has an English version of their website, but I think you need to go to the Czech version to actually buy tickets. I honestly wouldn't worry much about it, unless it's either one of the games already mentioned or a European game.
Thanks chaps, very helpful. I guess it's a case of waiting until the fixtures come out tnad then trying to plan something from there. Incidentally, do you know when fixtures come out and when the season i=s due to start?
