The screw size on the studs was M5-.8 so I just got that size t-nut. For glue I used JB Weld epoxy. I smothered the outside of each T-nuts right before I used a 20mm bolt with a metal washer to seat them. Now I am just leaving the bolts in there until the glue dries.
Finished product: Here is a picture of how the T-nuts look. After I coated the outside with the JB weld and got them seated I put some more JB weld over the top of them. I took them out for a little play test and they work great. They have incredible traction. Stud pressure is very light on the firm/hard ground I was playing on, but I am still going to get new insoles for them. But I forgot how great of a boot this is. I am very happy with them. I was thinking about selling them and I probably would have only got around forty USD for them so this was a much better idea. Let me know what you guys think.
Man, you did a nice job... Just my opinion: I definitely don't like this Nike studs... but is just my opinion...
Thank you! It was a fun project. I was on the fence about the nike studs. They look great but, I was/am scared if I accident step on someone's foot, which happens all the time in this game, it will REALLY hurt. I wanted 10mm metal studs but the only place I could find them was Europe and since I live in the US it would be kind of expensive. I actually just came in from trying them out. It was raining all afternoon today and some friends and I had a 9 a side game in the rain. At first the ground was a just wet FG and by the end everyone was slipping and sliding around except me. I put in the sofsole insoles I have in my morelias and there was absolutely no stud pressure even when the ground was still firm. Needless to say I am very impressed with them.
Since Nike isn't making my size for the Mercurial 1998 re-edition, I'll have to stick with these. Originally were black/white Mercurial 2.1 but "Fulham" from this forum helped me out and did a great job in re-painting them with Angelus paint. It looks pretty awesome but unfortunately the paint is chipping in a few spots. What's the best way to prevent this? I was thinking of applying a protective clear coat but which kind?
Could you try clear nail polish on the spots that need protecting? - Unless you wanted something a bit more industrial. Just thought the nail polish is quite thick and shouldn't crack. appleCORR
I thought of nailpolish too but not sure how it look in the end, probably very uneven. I actually try and use the Angelus finisher on it but it's very runny and it forms a very thin layer, not very protective.
Put at least 4 thin layers of the angelus finisher on it, maybe more. Not too thick though or it will crack and peel and such. Good luck.
FulhamFTW really did an amazing job! Here's the comparison with what they looked like before.. This was the original post: https://www.bigsoccer.com/community/...ts-2-tips-and-tricks-here-plz.1755043/page-11
