I have to admit, when I first saw the thread, I was half expecting you to write "with Arsenal" in the text of the message, John Boy. What great news that Davies has chosen to commit his immediate future to the club. We all know he hurts his chances to play for England while playing for a club outside the top flight.
I might add also that we Albion fans may have had our differences with the club's chairman, Jeremy Peace, and his predecessor Paul Thompson over various issues regarding the running of the club. However, I for one am grateful for the financial stability which has allowed us to be in the position to retain players such as Davies despite our relegation. We could have made quite a bit had we sold him to Wigan or Arsenal. We've turned away offers for our players right and left during this close season, a fact which may shock other fans of other clubs but certainly not us. (Now if we can just shove Jason Koumas out the door... ) In contrast, our Bluenose neighbours reportedly felt compelled to sell Heskey so they could hold on to Jermaine Pennant. If we fail to go back up, I'm afraid we WILL have to sell next close season. If we're too far out of the chase by January, we might even sell during the New Year's transfer window. Hopefully this worst-case scenario does not become reality.
