Update: http://www.chron.com/sports/article...ston-afloat-amid-5205441.php?cmpid=sportshcat Comcast won this round. Their questionable BK petition was accepted by the judge so now CSN is technically in a Chapter 11 reorganization proceeding. Who knows the ultimate result. I don't think anyone involved has clean hands. I wonder how much longer Crane can go without any local TV revenue. There are some real interesting legal issues the Astros and MLB are putting forth that the TV rights are not assignable and should revert back to the Astros regardless of the BK status.
So, Comcast is getting even scarier. It looks like it's trying to destroy free internet.... http://www.newyorker.com/online/blogs/elements/2014/02/comcast-versus-the-free-internet.html
Brahma , when you vote for Obama this is what you get. Comcast and its execs are some of the largest Obama donors
Dynamo apparently get $1.25 million per year from CSN Houston for TV rights per Grant Wahl's article today. I think both troutseth and I guessed in that range last year.
This could just be Comcast posturing, but if they really aren't willing to even put in a stalking horse bid for CSN Houston, the whole channel could go down the drain. Everyone sort of figured they would be the owner of last resort if the Astros & Rockets wanted out, with price of the buyout being the issue. If they don't want it own it all its hard to see this survive. http://blog.chron.com/ultimateastros/2014/03/17/comcast-backs-out-of-csn-bankruptcy-bid/?cmpid=hpts
so i was watching the csn houston feed (for the first time ever) while i was out of town this weekend on the mls direct kick package... SO GLAD i got it working this year so i can finally follow my team. while it sucks i have to pay, at least it's POSSIBLE. my favorite line during the broadcast was from eddie after glenn made a dumbass, out of nowhere comment about the pigeon on the field being one of the homing pigeons eddie trains in his backyard, eddie came back with "nahhh, they're only trained to find bacon". brilliant!
CSN Houston semi-update. Still looks like nothing soon http://m.sportsbusinessdaily.com/Journal/Issues/2014/05/26/Media/Houston-rights.aspx
http://blog.chron.com/sportsupdate/...se-to-deal-to-reorganize-troubled-tv-network/ Rockets and Astros say they are close to selling CSN Houston to AT&T. DirecTV & U-Verse customers might actually get to see games.
Dynamo local TV agreement with CSN Houston going to be dropped if AT&T/Directv's reorganization plan is approved. Canetti tells David Barron that the new owners are interested in a new agreement however. Translation: Dynamo are getting less money from local TV. And likely less coverage. Ironically, they are keeping the Dash agreement because it is probably dirt cheap.
