I heard that after this Sunday's game it would be the last game for Marcelo Fleitas as he head coach. He would remain in the organization but it was not clear what position he would have! Emelec with a win this Sunday, they would make it to the third spot of the Copa Sudamericana regardless of the results of the other games! The goal that Walter Iza scored vs Macara last Sunday was amazing. He got the ball on the Emelec side and dominated the ball dribbling a couple of players and goalkeeper to score the second goal of Emelec. It was amazing!

Gustavo Quinteros has been selected to become the next Head Coach of Emelec. He said in an interview with El Universo, "The Objective is to become Champions. I am happy to be and proud in a team so important as Emelec. We know that Emelec is a big club and our objective is to become Champions. We hope that we could accomplish it. I am convinced that Emelec has to become very competitive and fight for the title that would be the idea that we would set to the players. I come to a team that is already established, then, according to the characteristics of the players, I would use a system more convenient for the players to get used to quicker. I do not want to make any statements of the team because there is a Head Coach, now, Marcelo Fleitas, that the people like a lot and has given a lot to the club and out of respect to him, I would not give any opinion until Monday, when I feel that is proper. I would like to mention to the fans to be relaxed, that we would do whatever possible together with the players and management to acquire our objective, we hope that we could bring the most happiest feeling that is a Championship Title".

Why did Fleitas really leave? I haven't really looked into it or read about it which is why i ask. Emelec was 1 point away from Barcelona and if you guys had beat Manta @ home, then Emelec would have won the Primera Etapa. I don't feel like Fleitas did a bad job at all in Emelec. He freakin took them out the group stage in Libertadores- no one else has done that in the last few years. And on top of that you guys lost with the freakin winners of the competition and hardest defense to defeat which was Corinthians. IMO, that was the best I've seen Emelec in the last few years b/c they were able to handle 2 tournaments and could have easily won the Primera Etapa.

As for Emelec now, they have an uphill battle. The other teams are hungry for glory because they also want to be in the finals. Barcelona, I believe, would like to win the Championship without playing any finals vs any team. They have not won anything in 15 plus years. All the teams will be playing at full blast. Emelec with a new coach will go through a period of adaptation that might take a month or longer. Cristian Nasuti will be playing for Emelec. Let's hope that he could be the defender has been needing for a few months. The victory vs D Cuenca last Sunday showed a different Emelec of Fleitas. Emelec with Quinteros in the second half, played as a team and was creating plays in the attack. Now, that Emelec qualified for the Copa Sudamericana, let's see how that goes. The people want convincing victories and a Championship!

I'm a bit surprised that Fernando Gaibor isn't getting the amount of minutes he should be getting. Ever since Fleitas left, this Quinteros guy isn't giving him a chance to start. That's not good. Wasted talent. In the first semester of 2012 and in the Libertadores Gaibor was one of Emelec's best players and undoubtably could have been on the NT. Now this coach comes in and makes him disappear. I don't think Quinteros has a clue about who Fernando Gaibor is in Emelec. He was freakin captain for god sakes.

For el Clasico del Astillero, I know that Emelec will be playing or try to play with a 4-3-2-1 system!

emelec got olimpia by the ball sack since the Libertadores game in Asuncion lol good game especially defensively. Emelec could have left with a 2-0 easily.

Emelec advances to the next round as well. They will face U de Chile. Now all pressure is on Barcelona...it is looking like Ecuador will have 4 teams in the round of 16.

what happened last night is unbelievable. i still can't believe Liga de Loja won in Uruguay and eliminated Nacional. I honestly even thought Aurora would beat Deportivo Quito, and those bastards ended up leaving that game 3-1 and it could have been 5 or 6. Emelec slacked in their game. Ener Valencia was really neccessary to the team yesterday. It was noticeable that Emelec needed players far out on the wings. They played too much through the middle.

Emelec vs. U de Chile should be REALLY interesting.

When does the round of 16 start? Thoughts on Emelec's chances against La U? Personally, if we are to have a chance of winning the series, we will have to be in top defensive form, no screw ups. We also have to try to have possession and control the tempo. Offensively, we can hurt them in the air. Figueroa is a force in the air, and U de Chile are not particular strong in that aspect.

We have Osvaldo Gonzalez, might recover Ponce and also Morante! So not as easy as it looks. The trick is to get them match fit by the time we face Emelec which I think we will do. Morante has been particularly effective scoring a couple of goals from corners already, even if he's only recently starting to get playing time.

The trick is to get them fit enough, none of them except Osvaldo have had enough playing time and they still make silly mistakes. Our form leading to that match will tell if we are ready or not.

Good game! Emelec played well, not so much in the first 20 or so minutes in the second half but we managed to recover. We could have left Santiago with a win had Zumba not screwed up on the first goal and our defense lose their mark on the second one. We have to work hard and try not to commit those silly mistakes, that makes two game counting where that has screwed us up (against Liga). De Jesus was awesome today, one of the best game's I've seen him play. He is such an enigmatic player, when he plays games like this it shows you why team's drool over his potential. I think the coach messed up in not making the adequate substitutions. We should have taken out Mondaini and put in Gaibor around the 60th minute or so. Should have also gone with Valencia for the final fifteen minutes in place of Corozo. The game in Guayaquil is going to be nuts.

This game vs. U de Chile was exactly how I pictured it. I knew Emelec was going to go out there and play a really tough match b/c lots of those players were motivated to play their ex-coach. The Emelec of today came to life because of Sampaoli and still maintains that speed and creativity since 2010 that makes them a extremely aggressive team when attacking (besides the short time Omar Assad and Carrasco were there last season where Emelec lost that identity IMO). With Fleitas coming in Emelec went back to that aggressive style of playing and they finally know it's possible to get positive results outside of Guayaquil. U de Chile only dominated 20 minutes of this entire game. The fitness level that the emelexistas have is to envy. No one stops running. If Emelec can actually play as well as they did today in el Capwell, then they're in Quarter finals. So far D.Quito and Emelec have one foot in the next round and it is very possible to pass to the next round.

For those people that always bash Marlon de Jesus- THIS is why I like him. B/c i know he has the potencial to play games like he did today. He's tall, fast, strong and can do damage both on the ground and in the air. When he fully matures he'll be a freakin beast.

"Marlon De Jesus es el mejor delantero de la Serie A"

What do you guys think? Comparing him to the rest of the Ecuadorian strikers.

I think I agree now that Vincio Angulo isn't playing in Ecuador. But I've personally always thought De Jesus has more potential in the long run over Angulo or Juan Luis Anangono.

I haven't seen a toe point goal in 20 years..LMAO..Good luck to him, Hopefully the mexicans are watching. just bring out some lame news like he's going to Everton or Norwich so they bite!!!

oh there you are! Im gonna laugh at you if Juan Anangono ends up having a good season in your league. Player who isn't anywhere near as good as marlon is making it in your league. I bet even Narciso can make it in Argentina if that's the case and I personally think he's awful. I'll let time tell.

Why would you laugh at me? Are all Ecuadorain footballers going to Fail in Argentina? Bieler failed in Chile and look at him. And the list goes on and on. You never know. Certain Players react to different league. Hell Antonio valencia failed miserably in Spain and than went on to Man u in the best league in the world! Just because One Player in better than the other in Ecuador doesn't mean that same player will do the same in a foreign league.

Marlon De Jesus has the POTENTIAL to be a good player. He's a big kid with speed and strength. He's also a humble kid and a hard worker. Does that mean he'll ever realize his potential, no. He has a lot of room for growth and improvement and if he manages to fulfill his potential, he could very well be the striker for the NT in a couple of years. I could count the number of Ecuadorean players on one hand that possess his combination of physical characteristics and skill set. Who knows if he's going to pan out, and if somebody on this thread can predict the future and forecast the career of any particular player then they're wasting their time on this forum and should go work for some big European team
