OK guys back to last match of Barca vs Aletico (related to athleticism)

    STATS of the DAY:

Xavi Hernandez (11.8 km) ran the furthest of the Barca players, followed by Jordi Alba (11.5 km), Alves (10.8 km) and Marc Bartra (10.7 km). Behind Koke in Atletico's statistics came his fellow midfielders Gabi Fernandez (11.7 km), Raul Garcia (11.6 km) and Tiago (11.3 km). In all Atletico's players ran a total of 110.3 km, just slightly ahead of Barca's 107.8 km total.

Messi was "quickly" BLAMED for barely making 6.8km run in that game (!)
While the STATS (running) might show something but people FORGOT that Football is not a Marathon game/event. Stupid huh?

I like to use Maradona's and R9's comment on that BS STATS (because Messi belongs to same status of talent)

    - by 1982-83 season: Maradona said at Barca training camp: " I thought they bought me here to play football - I meant play with the ball, not running right?"

R9 in 1997 Barca season: the young spoiled kid took Barca private jet to go enjoying some events, and back late on weekend just before the game. He said " You guys run, I don't. I am here to score goals".

    ===========================================

Now if someone could have taken a STATS of Gerd Muller or Romario in their best days and might be BLOWN UP in the mind that they might not even run more than 5km and so what ? as long as they score and win for the team .... (as striker position = so is Messi now)

Hungary from the past was great, the last 30 years they have been rubbish. And Bulgaria preferred by me? I just like Stoichkov, a sensational player with great guts, and Balakov was a sweet technician. Other than that, I do not follow or prefer them.

A senior sports administrator is quoted as saying ahead of the 1972 Munich Olympics that ‘one thing matters above all else — medals’. However, the relatively advanced nature of the doping, which encompassed early growth hormone drugs and EPO as well as stimulants and steroids, is more sinister than previously imagined.

Brian Glanville: German doping report is no surprise

THAT the West German World Cup winning team of 1954 beat Hungary in the Final enhanced by drugs is something we have known for a long time. Indeed it was pretty plain soon after the Final itself with tales – not least from an enraged Ferenc Puskas – of German players vomiting in their dressing room.

probably for everyday folks but in an athletic competition anything that enhances your play is illegal. Like the case is with Marijuana these days (not even sure that marijuana would enhance your performance) . But I don't know if they had anti doping rules yet in those days.

But anyways, despite all the efforts to push drugs out of sport, they are just as prevalent as ever. See Pacquiao, Mosley in boxing. Armstrong is an obvious case. A lot of the baseball players. It's in every sport.

The simple and straightforward answer is 'no'.
"Es war verboten, weil es der Deutsche Sportbund verboten hatte"

By the letter of the law it was forbidden.

The most annoying for me is not that Armstrong took doping, but that I feel betrayed. He was a hero for me. Moreover, it is not the doping itself but the whole corrupt system that created an unequal playing field to his advantage. He took substances that his competitors did not dare to use. THAT really made me feel sick. For a transparent and concise summary, I advise the good documentary 'The Armstrong lie' (sadly, also with a negative role for a fellow countryman - he is persona non grata nowadays).

I honestly don't follow cycling that closely. However, from what i've gathered through eavesdropping on other people's conversations regarding the sport was that almost everyone doped. For me, the amount of reprimanding Lance received was beyond what was necessary (getting ridiculed on national television, saying his apology didn't seem sincere, questioning his love for his children) etc etc

What amazes me is how someone can deny Pacquiao uses or used to use PED's. A person that goes from 106 pounds to 150 pounds without losing speed, that refuses to take a drug test for 2 years. Training with strength and conditioning coaches that have faced PED indictment and convictions. How does that not raise red flags??

That's because of his terror campaign against certain key individuals like Walsh, Andreu, Landis, O'Reilly etc. Once Armstrong appeared vulnerable, those stroke the iron when it was hot.

I can tell from experience.... (not in sports) I was playing musics in younger days , and Marijuana did help to enhance my listening and playability with the rock band ... haha

now aday I only take a few sips of Singlemalt or some beers + cigarettes to boost ...safely - but the effect is not the same.

    =================================
For the record: not a good suggestion nor a good try on anyone since drug will produce different effect on different people in reaction :p

but not specifically in those years ...R9 was slimmer then Messi now, and Maradona was probably the same shape.

Let's look back at all the past legends of Barca with Messi and Neymar now:

For weight gain, that might be due to their drugs regime ... of which I could also foresee Messi will be like them sooner then later ...

You can tell messi is going to be fat one day. His double chin sometimes shows and thats a good predictor of whether or not someone will gain weight. Trust me I am pro at this, one of my girlfriends gained an extreme amount of weight so I know what to look out for. Sorry for sounding so shallow

Maradonas weight always seemed to fluctuate with almost every season for me, i dunno if it was the different camera angles, his haircuts or what..but with arg juniors he looked stocky, with boca he looked his lankiest, barca he looked stocky again, debut year at Napoli he looked small, later napoli years he looked like a solid tank. Then with world cup 1990 and 1994 he looked thin but solid. Does anyone else agree, or am I crazy?

it's exactly the same to R9 ... (and they shared more or less the same formula of drugs and "pain killer" so called) !

    R9 93-96: <75Kg
    98-99: >78Kg
    2002-04: 82-85Kg
    04-07: 86-89Kg
    09-11: 92Kg
    now .... >110Kg

His hunchback and double chin makes it likely to be fat someday, yes. He's quite muscular at some areas of his body. I agree. However, he might possess a better discipline than Maradona and Ronaldo ever had.
