vs Saturday, April 26, 7:30pm Columbus Crew Stadium TWCSC-OH / MLS Live The Metrostars are back in town. Buck a brat night! Dollar draft night! New York has a Wednesday game against Houston. We'll see if that slows them down in Saturday's game. Bernardo Anor will be taking the night off. We'll just have to see if our lineup has any more changes than that. That said, New York seems like the type of team that won't sit back, and will actually come out and play against us. If they do, it could be a very back-and-forth game, with lots of running up and down the field. MLS regular season record vs New York: 24-25-8 MLS regular season record vs New York in Columbus: 15-11-3 MLS regular season record vs New York at Crew Stadium: 10-10-3 all-time record vs New York: 29-26-9 all-time record vs New York in Columbus: 16-12-4 all-time record vs New York at Crew Stadium: 10-11-4 (W-L-T) Will it be Snake Plissken dress-up day? There should be free dollar drafts for anyone dressing up like Snake Plissken! And if any Metrostars fans show up dressed like Cabbie, they should get free beer too!
The Metrostars are probably the team I give a **** the least about. Some teams I hate, while others I respect (or something). 3 points and moving on.
Yeah I've never hated or cared about them as a team. I am a fan of Tim Cahill, but that's about it. The dreaded mid week game for NY tires them out and we get them by 1.
I just want a win. Oduro plays out wide for Anor, Arrieta starts up top - and most importantly - Pipa stays forward instead of dropping so far back. Clark makes a few more "Save of the Week" plays. Crew by 1.
i hated these guys when they were the Metrostars. it's always been a little harder to gin up real anger now that they're named after a disgusting red fluid.
It used to be fun defeating Tony Meola and company back in those days. Now its just, were'nt they the "Western" team we defeated to win MLS Cup?
Things haven't turned out so well for the Crew the last couple of times the NYRB's have come to town.
I looked at MetroStars as MLS corporation in a nutshell. Always the big, expensive signings, rules bent for them and on and on. Then I look at their trophy case and say, "Yep, that's corporate MLS in a nutshell."
Tim Cahill is a colossal d'bag. This game ends in a 1-1 tie. Oduro scores his first of the season within the first 30 minutes, but then the Crew squander a half dozen golden scoring opportunities and fail to put the game away. That big French guy carries the tying goal past Clark in stoppage time. And I mean that literally, he picks it up and carries it into the goal like Vrabel would on a fumble -rooskie while the officials are focusing on an off-the-ball incident between Cahill and . . . wait for it . . . Gonzalez. Ireland are knocked out of the World Cup, and las pelotas rojas steal two points from us.
Will Gonzalez get the red card he has deserved the past 2 weeks? If he doesn't get a red card, will he do something red card-worthy and get away with it to take his streak to 3? Which will be higher: the number of unsuccessful crosses by Josh Williams or the number of brats I eat?
"This is the year Fink beats the Stomach." By the way, if anyone knows that reference, then you may just be as big a loser as I am.
I have always considered the Red Bulls an experiment more than a team and they look lost right now. But Thierry Henry loves to score against the Crew at Crew Stadium. I am going with tie 1-1. I think Cahill is a chump but Henry is the real deal. I have not always liked the team he has been on but that guy is just a plain quality player.
I have the feeling that the last three games are more indicative of our quality than our first three games, so I feel like I should go tie or lose by one, but I'm going win by one; 2-1 good guys.
Predictions for Saturday's game: --After an exciting week of kickass weather, 40 degrees with 24mph winds hit for saturday night resulting in a sub 8k crowd. --Blue jackets get eliminated from playoffs. --What was joey chestnuts hotdog record? I will break that in brats. --Crew win 4-0. Arrieta with 2, Francis with 1, Higuain on a penalty that Pipo draws by talking shit during a corner.
An autographed Christopher Makepeace filmography. It's so small, he only had enough room to write "Christopher Make." Thank goodness for My Bodyguard. I do have to opine that Meatballs may very well be the finest Canadian summer camp movie ever made.
Jairo Arrieta Hat-Trick Day, but it won't be enough to get more than a draw against Handball Henry and Friends.
Just watched the NY thump Houston 4-0 tonight. Houston looked pretty poor, Henry is certainly a weapon but I think NY's defense is only average. It looks like a game where we'll have to score more than one goal to win though.
Houston had a lot of chances and seemed to put just about all of them on the wrong side of the post, or deflected out for a corner kick. On the other hand, NY is in fine goal-scoring form. It should be a very fun back and forth game.
Gosh, I hope not. If the posters here are right about other teams' having figured us out, I will be terrified every time Josh Williams goes forward.
