I was thinking more like 4, myself, when I posted. First (rookie) contract plus first renewal. That's still "quick" if you are worried about a 29 year old not being around long. If we get 4 years out of a good international signing, these days, I'm pretty good with that. Going for 28/29 year old players ensures that better than going for 32/33, which is more where we had been.
Not that I'm very religious but isn't God the creator and Jesus the savior so then: Lamar Hunt= God GBS= Jesus
I read a quote from RW or BB or MM somewhere recently where they spoke of the need for a second forward, which sounded to me like Higs would become a CAM paired with a legit DM (Sanchez or whatever his name is?) and we'd have two real forwards. Has Higs played that role before? Am I just flat-out dreaming?
I'd be interested in reading that if you can find it. Yeah he's played as a withdrawn forward and an attacking mid places so I'm sure he could do it.
It would have to be a truly fiery personality who sustains the fervor of Crew fans through the hard times... So, basically, Frankie Hejduk.
Here's the quote from RW: From this article: http://www.thecrew.com/news/2013/01/optimism-leads-crew-president-make-bold-prediction-2013 Again, this is probably me looking way too much into this, but it did stand out to me.
You might be right, I guess when I read that I lumped it in with all of the "Arrieta is going to miss time with his national team so we need a good forward we can count on for when he's gone" remarks.
Tchani make me throw up. don't like williams and berti on the outside. this team has to have 4 defenders i think. I like the forward options though and trapp in the DM.
To make three at the back work, you need a certain amount of on-field intelligence to read the game and adapt appropriately...who has said intelligence? gehrig is the wrong answer.
I I've always loved 3 in the back, but everyone says it won't work in MLS. But I'd like to see a 3-4-1-2... and I think RW would be more likely to use this because your 2 CMs can serve as DMs, have active wingers, and then leave it to Higuain to create and distribute to the 2 strikers.
so for our defense, we've added Barson, Beckie, Glauber, and now Matte There's our depth. Now we just need to identify the best 4.
Pretty Easy. Williams, Williams, Williams, Williams. Correct. Now we are on the same page man. Circle of Life man!
To play a 3 man backline, you have to have speed on the outside. I think Williams is fine, but by all accounts thus far, Glauber ain't fast at all.
Exactly, like what Napoli used last season when they had Zuniga and Maggio as wingbacks with the lungs of steel, the bulldog DM in Gargano that broke things up everywhere but especially in front of his back 3. The quality deep-lying playmaker Inler alongside of/in front of Gargano, and then the front 3 of Hamsik (in our case Gaven), Lavezzi (Higuain) and Cavani (Arrieta) to create and combine quickly mostly on their own. Of course this would never happen, but it is fun to think about. And as others pointed out, we still don't have the quality in the middle to pull off three at the back as it is. But there are CM's in the league that I think could pull it off. Alonso at Seattle would be perfect for the Gargano role and maybe someone like Zusi could do Inler's job. Just get two CM's of that caliber in, and Mazzari in to replace Bob and the Cup is basically ours.
to be honest I am not sure about the ins and outs of 3 center backs, I never considered them to need pace outside...probably not thought too much about it really. Anywho, I really doubt it will happen, but you just never know.
