Am I the only one put off that he is 29.

2 years and we have to find another players.
We need some sort of consistency!!!!

...maybe I am just being a dickle today, but I only like this signing because he is warm body that is better than what we have. Gehrig.

Honestly, he doesn't need to score too many goals, as long as people mark him. That should relieve pressure on Williams and Marshall on set pieces to get free.

We've signed much older players with great results before. Sure we didn't build a dynasty but experienced guys like Gino Padula are valuable in more than one way.

Oh come on, have a little fun. When was the last time the Columbus Crew signed a guy that anyone was excited about? It may be redundant and trite, but it's got people talking about the Crew.

I'm not down on the signing (unlike some people) or the buzz it's generated. But didn't this same meme occur with Higuain and GBS?

Probably. But were those started by Man City fans? Again, it may be redundant and trite, but who cares. No one is forcing you to stare at Twitter.

I don't remember anything like that happening when Higuain or GBS signed. There was an entire thread devoted to GBS's Bill Braskyesk fame after we won the cup though.

It wasn't during the signing, but I've certainly seen this meme perpetuated multiple times. But whatever. It's not really a big deal and I've spent way more time discussing this than I intended. By all means, carry on.

I do remember with Higuain, the boards saying a lot about "You got the wrong, Brother" and "Only 10 goals in 62 games, that is not great."
I am not saying that Glauber is GBS but other are right, he is better than what we have have presently.

Yeah but that was just stupid, as we clearly weren't going to get Gonzalo, and a lot of people were just being negative. This is just having fun with something in the guy's past.
I agree, while I would have preferred an international quality outside back we need to improve our back line. If Williams going outside is what makes us better I'm ok with that. Let's get a better answer for left back though.

Found this online dated from 2010. Make what you will of it.

The Brazilian centre-back Glauber Leandro Honorato Berti comes from two wasted years at Sao Caetano and Manchester City, where he had transferred after a solid 1. Bundesliga career with FC Nurnberg. Here’s a description of his style, from Doron Salomon, a football fan who saw him playing for Man City’s reserve squad and shared this on my Twitter account (rbaicu): “He’s slow so prefers to be part of a defence that sits deep… Massively susceptible to pace in a defence that tries to hold a high line and play offside. Decent in the air – he’s quite a big boy. Decent positional sense of play, but he’s a bit clumsy… Typically brazilian in that his touch is ok and he’s pretty comfortable to pass the ball out of defence, although he just always looks awkward on the ball”.
Anyway, in spite of all this, he might prove to be a classy aquisition from Rapid, given the fact that the club doesn’t even have a player who could dream of playing as much as Glauber did for Man City – a single game.

Shouldn't we have a quick defender to be paired with Chad, who is also slow and good in the air?

Not that I don't trust a random evaluation from a fan on twitter about a player who played many seasons ago at his club but....wait yeah I don't trust that.

No, I'm actually excited by that--as we *have* been getting guys in the 32-33 range. We're not going to get a perfect young defender--except, perhaps, by lucking into one in the draft. If we *did* he'd be gone quick (Chad would have gone IMHO, had he not had the concussions). So 28-29 gives us a window of 3-5 years. That's ok--in a world market where MLS is not first choice or even second choice.

So I guess the most important question:

When the PA announcer says his name and we all say his last name, what are we supposed to say. This could get confusing.
