I'm actually surprised how close 15 was. I picked Batman because he's my favorite superhero but I was sure I was wrong by a much bigger margin.
Time to concentrate on the season championship. My boys played well but went up against a legit contender
First of all, Batman always wins. However, in the one and only Cap/Bat matchup in JLA/Avengers, DC actually agreed to have Batman suggest that he thought Cap would win that fight. (Which as I recall came a few pages after Superman beat the hell out of Thor. And Flash beat Quicksilver by a huge margin.) So I think Captain America is the right answer.

I was just thinking of the old MMMS song from when I was a kid: "When Captain America throws his mighty shield, all those who oppose his mighty shield are keeled..." Had to spell it that way as the song writers made killed and shield rhyme--at least that's how I remember it (I was 10 at the time).
And for those of you who do not know what the MMMS was (Merry Marvel Marching Society), look it up. It was pretty cheesy--but it was *fun*. Marvel was always TIC rebellious while DC was more staid (though I tended to like the DC heroes better--I expect because they had a bit of a SF bent in characters like Green Lantern and the Flash (and Adam Strange as well as the Atomic Knights)).
Oh, we're going Justice League vs. The Avengers? Sure Superman would destroy Thor but Thor shouldn't face Superman. Put Iron Man on Superman. Tony Stark has the intelligence and resources to equip his missiles with kryptonite. Bam, game over for Superman.
Thor should be going against Captain Marvel (Shazam to you plebes...) as the battle of myth based powers. Hawkeye vs. Green Arrow.... And who doesn't want to see a Wonder Woman vs. Black Widow wrestling match?
