Even then it's not legal. It never ceases to amaze me how many seasoned soccer players think that a shoulder challenge means that one can do a hockey style check as long as it's with their shoulder.
Technically you're referring to Oduro pre-Chicago, or more accurately Oduro in a Dom Kinnear offense which is almost entirely reliant on crosses and freekicks.
My God, man! What other schoolyard tactics will be marring the beautiful game in the future? Wet Willies? What have we come to?
Gonzalez had a dirty shoulder check and dove. The check I can live with, the dive I'm not crazy about but he will get disciplined for it and that's the end of the story as far as I'm concerned. Stop with the disgrace to the shirt nonsense. I remember a certain Crew legend we had not long ago who would go down whenever someone breathed on him funny.
I guess if you have a different definition of "Legend" than most you could plug his name in there, sure.
Simon Borg says "for me, the embarrassment is already punishment enough" regarding the Gonzalez/Wondo incident
Yeah, it was just a flash, but you were perfectly recognizable. And I don't even hang around this forum that much!
I take your point, but how often did said legend foul someone and then roll on the ground clutching his face? A fine line, perhaps, but a line nonetheless.
I even had my boss see me on TV at the Reds once. Good thing I never play hookey (it was a vacation day or weekend). But the folks I was sitting next to at Opening Day told me that they knew someone at their office who was having an affair and got caught by the Kiss Cam....
Apparently Wondo should have "had his head on a swivel" or some other hockey nonsense talk, according to Mr. Pod.
For those saying Oduro should be benched or put out wide etc. Exactly what did he do wrong that Arrieta or Meram could actually fix? I will answer for you. Nothing.
In the system we're using right now, especially with the crosses into the box, Oduro is better suited out wide. Of the three players mentioned (Oduro, Arrieta, and Meram) Oduro is the best and most talented player, so I prefer to have him in the best position to be dangerous. Doesn't really have anything to do with the others doing anything better than him.
Last year, Warzycha was playing Oduro out wide, and quite a few people jumped up and down about it because he's really a forward. Now, 3G plays him up top and people want him out wide.
