Re: Cosmos join PDL in 2011 Promising news. I like the way they are starting from the ground up, with youth teams, and now a PDL team. Just to be clear - the articles says that the Cosmos will not play any COMPETITIVE games in 2011 - just a few exhibitions - but will join for a proper, competitive season in 2012.

NYC PDL franchise coming in 2012 USL News Release Wednesday, May 4, 2011 TAMPA, Fla. – United Soccer Leagues announced today that New York Cosmos U23 will field a team in the Premier Development League (PDL), and will become a full member for the 2012 season. New York Cosmos U23 will play a limited exhibition schedule against PDL competition during the 2011 season, and will not be eligible for the playoffs or the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. The PDL franchise will be led by longtime USL player/coach Giovanni Savarese, who is also a member of the 2007 USL Hall of Fame. A coaching announcement, along with the full roster and schedule will be posted by mid-May on www.uslsoccer.com and www.newyorkcosmos.com.
Re: Cosmos join PDL in 2011 Icahn can't be used. It's formatted for a track and the dimensions are wrong. They'd have to tear up the track to make a normal field, and that's not going to happen.

Re: Cosmos join PDL in 2011 That suggests Baker Athletics Complex, all the way at the northern tip of Manhattan. It has a dedicated soccer/lacrosse field with stands for about 1-2k. I'm bad at guessing seating size. Field is roughly FIFA-standard at 120x75. Columbia's school Wiki, WikiCU, does not list attendance. But it's by their football field, Wien Stadium, and guess who the field itself for that stadium is named after? Robert Kraft, owner of the New England Revolution and Columbia graduate.

The under-23 club will be fronted by former Metrostars (New York Red Bulls) forward Giovanni Savarese, a member of the USL Hall of Fame. Savarese, who played five seasons in MLS as well as with the Venezuelan National Team, is in charge of the Cosmos’ youth academy. The team will be made up of academy players as well as some local college and veteran players.

Cosmos U-23? Saw the Cosmos U-23 listed on the standings on the Wilmington Hammerheads page... http://www.wilmingtonhammerheads.com Anyone know anything about this? I heard they were to play exhibitions in the PDL this year.
