Will they break a new record? The biggest goleadas in Copa Libertadores history took place in 1970:

Penarol 11 - 2 Carabobo (known as Valencia FC at the time)
    River 9 - 0 Universitario de Sucre

A couple more and Santos enters the history books.

they could have scored 3 more, but they clearly decelerated after the 8th goal. Neymar almost scored another golazo but the Bolivar keeper saved it over the line with a high kick that almost hit Neymar´s face. If it was not 8-0 already, the ref would maybe have awarded an indirect free-kick for Santos...

Sad to see Bolivar go out this way, but they were completely outclassed tonight. I guess this should put to rest the theory that altitude doesn't make a difference.

May be corrupt, but they've been playing the most solid futbol in the tournament. At least that's how I felt based on how they played in the first round. I wasn't really impressed with the way they played in the series against Emelec, even though they ended up winning easily.

Universidade de Chile is winning 2-0 with 32 minutes played. One more and they're through. Can they pull it off?

    EDIT: what a long-range scorcher. They're up 3-0.

my Fluzao has the score we need, I hope we relax a little and Deco gets more space so we can wrap this up.

Perfect 1st half by la U. Hope nothing extraordinary happens so we can pass through. One more goal just to be sure .

    Que jornada en la Copa!

I know it's been said time and time again, but it never hurts to reiterate: Libertadores > Champions League.

Agreed. And let's remember also that the Champions' League's better teams would be considerably weaker without our South American players. They need us - we do NOT need them.

Agree as well. I mean, of course it's nice to watch Barca and all that show, but Copa Libertadores gives me much more bang for my time. So much more excitement!

Lets see if La U can take it now. It's still a one goal game either way.

Universidade de Chile is now defeating Esportivo Quito by 6 to 0. Another 8-0 rout?

There went the altitude not being a huge factor argument. It suffered a painful death tonight.

I have fun with rankings. According to the IFFHS, the Octavos:

#40 Fluminense vs. #45 Internacional --> Flu should win, with effort. (They were right)
#102 Unión Española vs. #27 Boca Juniors --> Boca won both, goal diff should've been bigger. (Half right? UE should be higher in their ranking, perhaps)
#3 U de Chile vs. #73 Deportivo Quito --> La U lost in the height of Quito, but crushed them in Santiago. (They were right)
#16 Libertad vs. #87 Cruz Azul --> Libertad won easy in the end. (They were right)
#44 Corinthians vs. #107 Emelec --> Corinthians should have scored more, "altura" not a factor (Half right)
#64 Lanús vs. #10 Vasco da Gama --> Vasco should have won easy, not by penalties. (They were wrong)
#12 Santos vs. #130 Bolívar --> In the end Santos won easy, but even in La Paz they should have got a tie, at the very least. (Half right)
#6 Vélez Sarsfield vs. #115 Atlético Nacional --> Vélez should've won easy, but it was a one-goal match. (They were wrong; At. Nac. needs to be ranked a lot higher)

Three right, three "half right" and two wrongs.

For the QF, their predictions would be:

Boca defeats Flu (with some effort)
U de Chile beats Libertad (with some effort)
    Vasco defeats Corinthians (fairly easily)
    Velez defeats Santos (barely)

Would've been if Mina and Bolaños had been correctly sent off. The Argie ref was far too kind.

    THIS WAS A CRAZY NIGHT
I really wanted to see that Inter-Flu game but they showed Dep. Quito and U. de Chile instead.
