Cabezas kid has lots of upside. He was amazing versus France. IMO-He is a diamond in the rough. The kid has potential to be a great 5 with a little more coaching.

For me the best player so far been Ortega. He has that quality of all great player have and that's how he makes everyone around him play better. His vision and passing is amazing. I like how he always looking for the ball to be an outlet for his teammates and tries to do one touch passing. The first goal was a brilliant pass. Why did they sell him to Mexico? This kid needs to be in Europe or very least Argentina where he can really have a genuine chance of getting transfer to Europe.

    Ortega + James = Future 2014 Midfield :D

Ortega is Big Mac #2. He had that 1 sick pass to el Tren that gave us the 1-0 and he did little else after words. Our goalie hasn't really been tested. I thought Mali was robbed a pk and it would have been interesting to see how Bonilla responded or how the team would have done if it was 1-1. The team didn't play as well this game but think it was dude the the Africans speed/height. I really hope they didn't let the France game go to their heads.

Muriel needs to pass the ball more.

I think we should rest Ortega, J-Rod, Franco for the next game as long as Ospina does not play.

In the replay, you can tell that the player was fouled just outside the box. HOWEVER, cheers to the ref. What he did (changing the initial play) WAS EXACTLY what a professional TEAM of refs should be doing (they do it in all American pro sports). Many refs can have a negative impact and make it a point to to make their presence known and would have never backed down from their initial call.

I like the way it's ruled now in the NFL.. The coaches have to challenge the call and they only have two opportunities per half... Something along the same lines should be implemented by FIFA but they'rea lot not too inclined to change things...

Ref challenges would slow down the game

It's also about the integrity of the game. and rules are rules but when you dive or are not granted a goal or a PK is called against you for a dum handball (happens all the time to our NT:rolleyes:), then you realize it's needed.

Watching Guatemala match and Ecuador match. That Guatemala team is the worst U20 I have ever seen in a WCup. Feel bad for those boys and for country....

elviejo, the problem is that players have an edge that a ref simply doesn't have, which is speed, space and numbers. So either you bring in more supporting refs or you use technology. I've watched plenty of matches where the ref is making a decisive call being 25 yards away. The players of today are faster, bigger, stronger (and much more trickier) and the refs just can't catch up quickly enough.

Replays are fine for the NFL because it fits right with the constant play stoppage that occurs during the game which is contrary soccer which is more fast paced game.

plenty of folks would beg to differ with your fast paced comment ---in fact, the majority of americans would laugh at that statement and see it as true irony. I remember (USA) football when replays did not exist and 'traditionalists' felt that it should be kept the same way. But at some point it makes sense to use technology to your advantage. The ref will always be the last call but why not give him the aid to make that last call the best call.

Actually now the ref make less mistakes than before... Go back to the 90's and the games were much more controversial than now. The difference is that now we got good replays, the whole word is watching and will critizice, Just imagine Maradona doing now the hand of god or the Estudiantes of Billardo....

Replays existed back then:confused: Everyone on TV saw the hand. But your 1st statement is based on what study? Again, faster play, faster players, more 'sophisticated' faking and if anything bigger $$$ means that a ref can be given a sweet offer to look the other way. FIFA will make some type of change in the next 10 years, no doubt.

I mean better replays, is very likelly that now the Ref could get $$$ Like they used to, Nacional and America are two big examples. If they do that now, Colombia most likely would get a ban from Fifa. Just look what happened to Juventus and many Italian Clubs...
Football had wayyy more dirt back then than now.
You say players try to fake the ref, wich is true but i read that Billardo used to had a ref friend that was teaching his players how to fake it...
Why you think "big teams" arent that big as they used to be....
Its true that now any team have a decent level but also the reff doesnt help the big team like they used to.
I cant argue with ur last point cause ur totally right... Fifa will make some changes
But like I said in my opinion futbol its perfect the way it is

It is dirtyness at a higher level... With most games being on TV and with instant replay fans could very easily see when they're robbed... I feel that refereeing has improved 2000% in the last two decades and now if a referee wants to rob a team (he still can) has to be a lot more subtle, not like the Uruguayans and Argentinians referees from de 1980s (or for that sake the cartel-backed colombian refs from the same period) that would do everything but wear the favored team jersey..

Now a days fixed matches still happen, but the real corruption is at the helm, with managers and directors getting richer with all the money that flows from fans and advertising, almost straight into their pockets...

Regarding the instant replay review, as I said I do not back it for everything, but for a few plays and believe me, in most cases it would not take longer than disolving the mele of players around the referee when a team disagrees with a call....
