I still have difficulty in my mind understanding the way some peeps analyze with the heart (to find a nother warm area) and not with the head ...

Argentina came from a disaappointing WC 2 years ago! ... some of their more experienced and best players were under their normal level, which DOES NOT mean they are finished at club level in Europe nor in NT action.

This is the line-up used for the first qualifier against Chile:

    Pablo Cavallero;
    Vivas - Ayala - Samuel
    Zanetti, Veron (65' Almeyda), Kily González;
    Aimar - D'Alessandro
    Delgado - Crespo (72' Saviola)

If you ask me ... the goalie place has fallen in the hands of Abbondanzieri since the game with Paraguay ... and thru out CA. He should be the goalie.

    Vivas ... out
Samuel ... with his new club Real Madrid
Veron ... back in Italy after never adapting to the EPL and injuries.
Almeyda ... with lots to give to the NT still
Aimar ... at Valencia, still injured
Crespo ... with Milan, gaining his form after the Chelsea fiasco.

Aside from those 5 starters, the following are players who could line-up with Argentina:
Cambiaso (Inter), Riquelme (Villareal); Lopez (Lazio) ; Gallardo (River) ; Cavenaghi (Spartak Moscu)

To say that Argentina has brought the best they have is clearly misunderstanding the job of Bielsa ...

2/3 of this team are U-23 ... hence going to the Olympic Games. The last few games of the qualifiers, Bielsa started to experiment with some new faces ... local pressure; building a solid Olympic team with youngsters who have won it all at U-20 and obviously because it was not the best moment for some of the players in the team he lined for the 1st game with Chile.

When those players are back in form, Argentina will most certainly line them.

The WC '02 was a fiasco ... as such, pressure is in the air in Argentina ... with the coach and some of the star players at that tourny. But none of these players can be said/thought of to be in a decline, such as Rivaldo for example, as to be out of any future Argentine NT squad.

As I said before, props to Brazil for winning it, it doesn't get any closer to losing the final thou.

Hi, Luis Fabiano plays in the team that i suppirt, São Paulo FC, I don't know if Marseille will buy him but I can tell you that he is a very good scorer, last year he scored 44 goals in 54 matches.
And this year he was the Libertadores top scorer.

    ASF,

Argentina did not kick Brazil's ass. You remember that we played better - but one goal from ONE good play by Maradona and Caniggia hardly equates an ass kicking.

Thanks for a balanced and coolheaded response. I appreciate your honesty. We are rivals but we're not mortal enemies who cannot be friends outside the soccer field.

You said it right, Brazil has a great team. It speaks volumes of the potential of my country's soccer that we gathered young guys who had not played together before and who reached a final game - after blasting a strong Mexican team.

You should if anything be OPTIMISTIC. You also have good talents who at a young age are reliable for the A team. Saviola is the most glaring example.

And I agree with you. Marcelo Bielsa deserves to stay. Only if you'd lost by a 3 or 4 goal margin would I understand if AFA sacked him. But your team played good soccer the entire tournament. You guys are 2nd in qualifying. Firing him would've made sense on June 13, 2002. But you've come this far.. keep him.

If the ref is neutral and doesn't influence the result then luck has nothing to do in football. This was the case. Argentina didn't lose because of bad luck. They lost because they weren't the best team. Brazil earned it, defending, playing not spectaculary and scoring when they had to. Argentina played a nicer football though. But Brazil deserved to win because the match ended 2-2 and they scored all the penalties.

Thanks to asf and some others for some reasoned evaluations among all the noise in this thread.

Argentina had the run of play but it was not overwhelming.

I thought our first half Brazil was always a half second behind Argenitna. Edu however was a whole second behind everyone.

We earned the equalizer though as we had good moments and put together a decent stretch at the end of the half and our free-kicks were dangerous.

Second half was much more even but Argentina's passing remained better - why is it that at times Brazil simply can't pass the ball against a pressing team?

Juan was huge - all the others were average to ok, but did not stand out today.

I would love to see Adriano alongside Ronaldo as soon as possible - whenever RG or Kaká need to sit out a game.

If anyone is sitting, it must be Kaka...but I would rather not have anyone of the four on the bench...Indeed,I would prefer Baptista over Edu...IMO, he didn't get enough time on the field.

I find this comment silly. If you have a tournament of 50000 teams vs one with 4 teams, where will you find nicer matches?

Specially when some of these teams in Europe are not all that. Do I need to remind that Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay together have more WC titles than all European national teams? Okay that their leagues are great, but that's a matter of money, as they have the best South Americans players.

The only thing useless here is reading posts from some know-nothing twat who would openly make a fool of himself by maintaining that senior superstars are useless when infact they are some of the most influential players to walk this green earth. Pirate is useless? Aimar, Almeyda, and Cruz usless? Maybe you care little of your own integrity but that doesn't give you permission to spam ******** about things you know nothing about

Argentina is entering a new generation of stardom, you make it sound like Argentina was defeated by Brazil's super youth when infact the majority of the Argie starting 11 are all youth players aswell. Tevez is a 19 year old kid, D'Allesandro is barley 21 along with other youth players like Delgado, Rosales, Collocini etc. This is a very, very young and talented team that should have nothing taken away from them because they played just as hard and were not just better on the night but probably the best team of the tournament aswell (which everyone must accept because its the blatent truth). And with a good mix of the old gaurd along with the new mix of the golden generation and I'd say you have an Argentina side that stands 2nd to no one. The qualifier that was played in late June between Argentina and Brazil had with it a result that hardly reflected the game where Ronaldo was unsiprisingly given 3 spot kicks (2 of them were questionable BTW) to give Brazil a rather cheeky victory when it was really an even match.

If I was a Brazil fan, other then the great last minute victory, I wouldn;t have anything else to be happy about because it was a very poor display all-round and in the end it only reinforced speculation about Brazil being the underdogs which they inevitably became.

Still, they lost. Get over it. it is not about being young, it is a matter of not being part of the main team. Many guys on the Argentine team played in WC 2002 and 16 of them are on their A team.

This Brazil was assembled two weeks before Copa America. They played really well and never gave up. They are the champions! You can go to bed now. Next time we will send our "C" team!
