    Connor Doyle

    Has anyone heard of him?

He is trial-ing with Derby County. Heard his name on sky sports highlights.
He came on for the second half vs Burton Albion yesterday, had a good performance.

he's 18 years old, played youth with Dallas Texans.

My apologies if there has been a thread made about him already, I searched around and couldn't find one.

    DOYLE TRIALING AT DERBY COUNTY

"Conor has been with us since July 12th and is staying with us next week," Derby County press office Matt McCann told YA. "We will make a decision after that."

Is it just people in Texas who are dumb enough to name their teams after the state or is there a Tacoma Washingtonians out there I don't know about?

    Portland Oregoners
    Syracuse New Yorkers
    Miami Floridians

18 year old US kid is playing major minutes in pre-season friendlies for a Cola team? that certainly doesn't happen very often. Must be serious trial/serious consideration...not just a favor.

If he sticks, this is a big story.

Clint Dempsey, Jared Jeffrey, Omar Gonzalez and others have played for the Texans, they're one of the better youth clubs in the country.

Doyle would be another in that line, though I suppose it could end up in the inevitable USA vs Ireland dual-nationality debate.

Was he ever on the radar of an MLS team or is this another case of American scouting being absolutely horrible?

As for the name, maybe it would sound better with hearts on either side of it.

Derby's table tennis tournament... as you can see Doyle is on the list. I don't know how he fared in the tournament.

Would love to see him make it at Derby though!

Its another case of a kid with a EU passport having other (probably better) options to explore.

Now if you're done with your smug Texas condescension please run along.

Interesting point, but as a Texan I can understand exactly why they named themselves the Dallas Texans. Not to mention their reputation speaks for itself.

I remember playing against the Dallas Texans...we took those mother ... to overtime :)

Dallas Texans were an old name of the the AFL/NFL Kansas City Chiefs franchise as well as the name of the vagabond team of the 1950's, that was disbanded and whose rights were sold to Carol Rosenbloom to be operated as the Baltimore Colts.

I am from Texas and played for a club known as the "texans". I think the reason Texans can get away with having clubs with the name "Texans" in it is because Texas is such a different place, Texas stands alone as basically the most independent and probably most famous state, several times when i've been out of country and people ask where I'm from I say "Texas" it doesnt really fly with other states though.

Isn't Connor Doyle the name of the potty-mouthed shortstop in Bad New Bears?

just don't say you're from Dallas or you'll be expected to know who shot somebody named JR. And let's not forget about the pro team the Houston Texans.

Oh, and what position does this kid play?

This is all quite exciting stuff! Considering a young, up and coming American striker getting lots of minutes and scoring with a pretty decent level team is exactly what we need. :)

It looks like he'll be getting a two year deal and the club will probably be helping him continue his education too.

I don't know if it's been reported earlier in the thread, but we have an American ownership group too.

Many of you may only remember us for our disasterous Premier League season a couple of years ago and Benny Feilhaber's miserable time here, but we're a real soccer city with a great history and 'I believe' a bright future under Nigel Clough, Johnny Metgod and the team.

Maybe we should update the thread title in include "to Derby County", since some readers haven't heard Connor's name before?

Exciting stuff. Best of luck to the lad.
