Here are some probable rankings for August updated today (these are making assumptions about the GC based on ELO, so take it for what its worth): http://www.football-rankings.info/2013/07/fifa-ranking-august-2013-probable_13.html 17 - USA (+5) 20 - Mexico (0) 38 - Costa Rica (+1) 45 - Panama (+6) 53 - Honduras (+2) 75 - Haiti (-6) 78 - Jamaica (-1) 81 - T&T (+6) 84 - El Salvador (+10) 91 - Cuba (-9) 92 - Canada (-4)
Yeah, though its mostly beating CR, and then the assumption that we'd have to beat them again (or Honduras) and Mexico to hoist the GC and move into the 17 spot. Huge assumptions obviously, but I really like that guy's work and his website is really useful. Obviously if we crash out before the final those are all moot. Additionally I'm not sure what the rankings would be if we were to lose to Mexico in the final. I imagine we'd be somewhere around the 20-21 spot with Mexico just above us.
Probably. I think Jamaica is really underrated by those rankings but they did it to themselves by playing to less than the sum of their parts up til now. I also think Honduras is underrated at the 53 spot and Panama slightly overrated at 45. I'd probably switch them, just my opinion. I also think we're overrated at 17 but again, that's due to our recent results and some of them against decent teams. If those rankings turn out to be accurate once the GC is done, the U.S. will be the only country to gain triple digit points out of every country in the FIFA rankings, which is interesting. Its pretty much a log-jam from the 12 spot (Uruguay) to the 19 spot (Cote d'Ivoire) in those rankings, with the teams only separated by 36 ranking points. Uruguay would trail the 11 spot by 40 points (Greece), and Cote d'Ivoire would open up a 49 point gap on the 20 spot Mexico.
If El Salvador win the Gold Cup 2013, they should be around 48th in the next ranking (August) acording to FIFA INFO website. That is very possible and it can happen!
That would certainly be a major accomplishment! Anything can happen, who knows. Gotta beat us first though
Looking at the ranking of each Concacaf team within the region (so it's 1 to 35), at the end of each year (the December ranking of each year, July ranking for 2013 obvioulsy). The month-to-month rankings are getting a little tedious, and one-month blips come and go (although I think there'll be some changes in the August rankings for Concacaf [just a hunch!]): First chart is the average ranking over 21 years, then for the last 8 and 4 years (i.e. the WC cycles): TeamcountavgL8 countL8 avgL4 countL4 avg Mexico211.181.441.3 USA211.981.641.8 Costa Rica215.185.646.0 Panama2110.385.444.3 Honduras214.484.044.8 Haiti2111.388.547.3 Jamaica215.286.045.0 Cuba2110.288.8410.3 Trinidad and Tobago216.788.849.0 Canada217.587.448.3 Dominican Republic2121.0820.5416.5 Guatemala2111.0812.4412.5 El Salvador2110.5812.9412.0 Suriname2117.1816.3415.0 Antigua and Barbuda2116.9814.8413.3 Grenada2116.7817.9416.8 Guyana2120.6814.5415.0 Belize1926.3825.8423.0 Puerto Rico2124.0821.9418.3 St. Vincent and the Grenadines2116.0817.5420.3 St. Kitts and Nevis2117.9818.9417.8 St. Lucia2120.0825.8426.3 Barbados2114.3817.8422.5 Aruba2128.8829.3426.5 Bermuda2120.5819.4422.8 Nicaragua2125.1823.1424.0 Dominica1923.8826.9424.8 Montserrat1533.3832.1431.3 Curaçao327.3327.3327.3 Bahamas1526.9825.6428.3 US Virgin Islands1531.9831.8431.0 British Virgin Islands1726.9829.9431.0 Cayman Islands2124.6828.4429.8 Anguilla1732.5833.3434.0 Turks and Caicos Islands1531.3828.9433.3 Chart of raw data: Team201320122011201020092008200720062005200420032002200120001999199819971996199519941993 Mexico111222111111111111111 USA222111222222222222222 Costa Rica386744763333475549754 Panama443668579111315131315141311151517 Honduras564433344554346786333 Haiti6310101010613111011991111111514231321 Jamaica7553851055446653333487 Cuba81216511783887889810108102625 Trinidad and Tobago9999969106665534455579 Canada107885948109971189974645 Dominican Republic111119252930211826252019202121201917252322 Guatemala1210121612111214778107676912211814 El Salvador1313715712152113121011101010867866 Suriname141418141917181618181717182323232018131012 Antigua and Barbuda151511121516171720191920191717172222181412 Grenada162020111713232317171616171613121116201620 Guyana171713131318131222282524262726242425262118 Belize18272126242632322727222125292928282928 Puerto Rico191915202220303030303333323127262524161210 St. Vincent and the Grenadines2018222120191191616181814141618141091716 St. Kitts and Nevis211617172121191915141513151814151615222627 St. Lucia222331292827242214131414161520191819122219 Barbados232127191414131112151212121212131213111111 Aruba242426323232323233333030292830252728272526 Bermuda2525142718151615212026252420242726261998 Nicaragua262224241629202418212128303031303027292424 Dominica27262818313127272523272621191916172024 Montserrat282835343434323234343535353534 Curaçao293023 Bahamas302824312624222029292929282628 US Virgin Islands313129333333323231313232333332 British Virgin Islands3232322830282829242323222224222929 Cayman Islands333330232725282828262423232218212323171923 Anguilla3434343434343131323231313132353131 Turks and Caicos Islands353533302523252535353434343433
Here are the Top 10 in CONCACAF in the August 2013 FIFA Rankings with their overall rank and change in overall rank: 19. USA (up 3) 20. Mexico (same) 40. Panama (up 11) 42. Costa Rica (down 3) 43. Honduras (up 12) 74. Haiti (down 5) 76. Jamaica (up 1) 78. Trinidad and Tobago (up 9) 83. El Salvador (up 11) 86. Dominican Republic (up 4) The average change was up 4.3. Dominican Republic is in CONCACAF's Top 10 for the first time.
Fourteen in the top 100. Rounding out the top 100 teams: 90. Cuba (down 8) 91. Canada (down 3) 93. Guatemala (same) 100. Suriname (up 9) ------------------- Next highest is Antigua & Barbuda at 121 (up 1). Belize fell 13 spots to 143 (22nd in CONCACAF).
They don't play enough meaning full games. The top teams in the Carribbean get fat in their tournament by beating up on the minnows. Central America has Copa Centramericano. Canada only has the Gold Cup and WCQ and they didn't last very long in the most recent ones.
Canada played 12 WCQs this cycle, 6 each in 2011 and 2012. That's three-quarters as many as the teams who started in the Semifinals and reached the Hexagonal will have after October. The format used this time could be better for Canada's FIFA Ranking than if they just had to win one two leg series to reach the Semifinals.
You're right, it should be more like: USA Costa Rica Honduras Panama Mexico Am I right? ******* personal attack deleted...
Definitely true. It's shocking to realize, but Canada's last win was one calendar year ago (Oct. 12, 2012) at home against Cuba. You're right. They don't play enough meaningful games. And when they do, they often seem ill-prepared. For the recent Gold Cup they hadn't actually named a head coach yet, so used an interim coach. Then they got their asses handed to them. That couldn't have helped the rating. They just played Mauritania twice (ranked in the 150s) and failed to win either game. [They were unlucky in qualifying, when they were drawn with Panama and Honduras. And they did quite well until they went down to Honduras on the last gameday and wet the bed. Every cycle that group with Canada seems to be the "Group of Death," but the reason for that is that Canada is in it. A team ranked in the FIFA duldrums that's capable of beating teams like Panama and Honduras on a given day.] Certainly not guys in their 20's. Atiba Hutchinson is still at Besiktas. Olivier Occean at Kaiserslautern. Canada is in a perpetual state of looking at the future. They have some talented young players. Teibert, Piette, Osorio, Aleman at Valladolid, etc.. Just not enough of them.
Here are the Top 10 in CONCACAF in the October 2013 FIFA Rankings with their overall rank and change in overall rank: 13. USA (same) 24. Mexico (down 3) 31. Costa Rica (up 2) 34. Honduras (up 6) 36. Panama (down 1) 74. Cuba (up 10) 78. Dominican Republic (up 9) 80. Haiti (down 2) 81. Trinidad and Tobago (up 4) 82. Jamaica (down 4) Dominican Republic has its best ever ranking. They were 166th in the FIFA Rankings used for the World Cup 2014 qualifying draw and in 3 years and 1 month they have passed over 100 countries. Out of the top four Caribbean countries, only one of them reached the WCQ Semifinals, and Cuba might or might not have reached the Semifinals if they had to play in the previous group stage.
Egads Canada.............................now ranked 111th. Behind nations you aren't quite sure are actual nations. Niger is 110. Niger? This is an epic free-fall. They still haven't won a game this year.
Speaking of free-fall, what the heck happened to Guatemala? They only missed the hex on goal difference, and now are ranked a spot behind Canada.
Their goal differential in the Semifinals was worse than Jamaica, who finished last in the Hexagonal. It was the second consecutive time they finished third in a Semifinal group that included the team that finished last in the Hexagonal.
