In the meantime, a few interesting facts: 1) Mexico is the only team to have played every other country in the tournament, including Nicaragua and Belize. (For purposes of this ranking, the CFU counts as a single country). 2) Mexico has an average above 2 (equal to a win and a draw in a home and away series) against every other country except for the United States and Canada. However, the team with the best average points against Mexico is actually Honduras (with an average of 0.9 points per game). 3) Except for Nicaragua and Belize, there are only three possible head-to-head matchups that have never happened in the current-format CCL: Costa Rica-Canada Costa Rica-Panama Canada-Guatemala
Something does not compute. Or are you saying that in the history of Concacaf club championships (ignoring Central American only tournaments) Costa Rica - Panama has only occurred 2 times and 0 times in the current CCL format? I guess Panama clubs are relative new to continental competition.
I was personally happy to see an MLS club finally crack the top 10. Also, the calculations have been questioned before, but has a club every rode their countrymen's coattails like Chivas? They have played in one tournament, crashed out in the first round - and are still ranked 16th.

HEY! The coding works again! Happy days! So, spoilers for the final point totals. There are 8 points left for Mexico to take (3 points per match, 2 to the overall champion), so their coefficient for 2012/13 will go up 2.000 to 19.875, perfectly middle-of-the-road for them. That will bump Mexico's overall score to 101.500. Santos could overtake Monterrey for the top club point total. Morelia will see a lot of movement during the final, as they are guaranteed to jump over Marathon and Salt Lake, and will finish either just behind Toronto or tied with them, depending on rounding. Future notes: After the final, I will obviously post the FINALLY COMPLETED five-year coefficient rankings. Once all of the entrants for the 2013-14 tournament are confirmed, I will be dropping all numbers from 2008-09, as well as any team that has not competed in the tournament since that campaign. I will then add new clubs based on their respective country's first-time qualifier score, and have everyone set for another great year of CONCACAF-based statistics. During that number removal period, I will also monitor any movement that takes place in the rankings (and there will be a lot of it), and let you all know when the first table for 2013-14 goes up.

Here is the update for the Head-to-Head Coefficient after the first matchday. Since this is the first posting of the season, a quick reminder of how my coefficient works. I look at all of the results between teams from two countries and calculate the average result of games between them, from 0 to 3 points. With those "results," I build a league table, then divide by the number of teams involved in the total competition to get a final coefficient, again between 0 and 3 points, reflecting the average points per game each federation has scored against every other federation. This gives them an advantage in my coefficient. Because they've been drawn more often than others against Mexico, the U.S., and Honduras, it may also artificially lower their UEFA coefficient as calculated by ArsenalMetro. I suspect the truth is somewhere in between.
And here, for the curious, is the 5-year average league table. This shows the average points earned by the team on the left against the team on top, in the last four editions of the competition plus this week's games. Where a team hasn't played another in that time span, the number is in (parentheses). One interesting side effect of this system: Belize, all of whose numbers are "averages" since they haven't played in the last five editions, are actually doing better than a few other teams, who have played but haven't done very well. Expect that number to drop quickly if Belize ever gets a team to the starting line.

Chivas - the mothership - in the Top 20 even though they have appeared in CCL and got bounced out of the opening round. Another is the San Jose Earthquakes being ranked ahead of Heredia, even though the Guats won their sole head to head matchup. I also noticed that MLS suddenly has five clubs in the top 13, which surely has to be a record. Either that or I haven't been paying attention. I am most certainly not complaining at Arsenal Metro, but pointing out once again the lunacy of how the coefficients are compiled, which IIRC is from UEFA). The main problem, IMO, is giving teams points for years in which they have not participated.
These ranking are meant to be predictive, not entirely a representation of past results. Would you expect Guadalajara to get bounced so easily were they to qualify again? Maybe, but Mexican teams almost never lose to non-Mexican teams, so probably not. Same thing for MLS teams over small-country teams. Guadalajara getting bounced was a surprise, as is Heredia doing well. Without more evidence, you wouldn't expect SJ to lose to Heredia - and we haven't even seen both sides of the coin, as SJ hosting Heredia hasn't happened yet. (Besides, is a 5pt difference in these ranks really that much to argue over?)
Again, to refresh the purpose of this thread (for anyone new to this thread): It simulates the country (and club) rankings (in this case, Carribbean is combined into one country, since they have a seperate qualifying tournament) loosely based on the Uefa ranking method. They have no official meaning to Concacaf; they are posted here as a discussion point of how many bids each country would get based on their table standings (alone). Also (again, for the mental exercise only) how seeding pots might look like if the draw was based on club rankings.
