It's a tricky situation, but I, for one, would not be comfortable with a rotation of Djourou, Koscielny, and Squillaci for the next month or two, since Vermaelen is going to need time to find his form after he's fit.
http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story/_/id/894783/vermaelen-nowhere-near-return-to-action?cc=5901 I'm beginning to think we will never see Vermaelen play for Arsenal again. I have serious doubts if he will ever be the same. There have been many careers ended with what was believed to be a minor injury.
I am not that pessimistic but I do not think we shall see him this year (I said year not season). Too bad.
Lazarus is back.... Glad to see The Verminator back into the swing of things. Who know's he might make a 15 min appearance on the last home game of the season.
They never promised that he will be back for Barcelona, just that they were targeting him to be back for Barcelona. Stop complaining, he said that he is training without any pain so the nightmare should finally be over.
he's a very easy player to root for. i very much look forward to see how he pairs with djourou*. *not a knock on koscielny in any way, shape or form but i think we've all discussed before how vermalaen and koscielny are both aggressive centrebacks that pair better with a more stay-at-home type like djourou.
You can say that about the rest of the team. I must say though, if healthy, we're looking at a pretty good rotation with Rio Jr. coming back from Rangers.
Rio Jr? Has Bartley shown that much progression on his loan spell?, I haven't been keeping tabs on him, but he only has 5 appearances for Rangers...Anyway it'll be nice to have him back nonetheless, A tall young CB, can hurt our depth.
Many Arsenal fans that have been following him regularly have said that he has progressed greatly since the start of this season. I remain skeptic since I never rated him as highly as others, but of course at this moment I am desperate for anyone to be an upgrade from Squillaci so it will be nice to see how he performs with us in the pre-season.
Vermaelen is set to make his return tomorrow with the reserves: http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2011/apr/27/arsenal-thomas-vermaelen-return
I don't get it. Shouldn't we all be overjoyed and eager to see him back on the field again? Instead people are moaning about his return and wanting him to just get shut down until next season.
i think both points are valid. i mean, it's great to see him back and, if nothing else, it's a psychological lift for a team that could really use some. i also think AT3's point about seeing where he's at and what he'll need to do during the summer is also big. on the other hand, given 1) our luck with injuries and 2) our luck with long term injured players and their niggling muscle injuries upon their return, a full shutdown and simple workout with the physio to get fully healthy for next season also makes a lot of sense.
Its official, The Verminator is our new Captain. Arteta is 2nd in command. Lead us to glory TV ! Do Arsenal proud
