The United States today is a better team than Mexico and here is why:

    1) We finished ahead of Mexico in the last CONCACAF standings. The United States finished first and Mexico finished second.

    2) We are currently rated #13 in the FIFA rankings. Mexico is not in the top 20.

    3) Mexico was 1-2-1 in the last world cup. Besides the one victory over a horrendous France team, Mexico was extremely disappointing. The United States finished first in their group and came very close to making the final 8 teams in the world.

BOTTOM LINE: The United States is clearly the #1 team in CONCACAF today. Of course it could easily change in the next couple of years but currently Mexico is #2.

As a US fan please don't derail this thread with this tired old argument. The US-Mexico pissing match doesn't have to enter and then take over every single thread in the regional forum.

Realistically only Mexico and the USA (maybe Costa Rica) could compete in copa America, so I still say the only way this could happen (and it won't) is the 10 South American teams + 6 Concacaf teams.

I think Honduras, Jamaica and others can compete and get points if they make it a priority. You could get 6 CONCACAF nations that can compete.

Mexico, USA, Costa Rica would always qualify, the other three would be a fight between T&T, Jamaica, Honduras, Guatemala, Panama, Salvador.

Honduras did quite well in Copa America when they went down, albeit years ago.

I'd also add Canada and possibly Cuba to the CONCACAF teams fighting for a top six spot. In short, the usual suspects.

I think if we had 6 spots Honduras would likely always qualify as well. I would add Guadalupe to the list of contenders since they do participate in regional tournaments.

Cuba is to inconsistent for me to read but Guadalupe has done a good job separating itself from the pack in the Caribbean and now has had 2 good gold cups. I would argue they are at T&T's level.

I guess that the problem would be how do we get down to 6 spots, I guess that the WC teams make it automatically (that is 3 or 4 spots), then a tournament right after the world cup to get the other 2 or 3?

I know that some people would want the 6 teams in the Hexagonal, but that would be unfair to some teams especially non-FIFA teams.

Agreed. The 6 hexagonal teams aren't always gonna be the best from the semifinal group stages. Usually because there's always one really weak group and a strong ("death") group.

Well I say, screw two confederations. Lets make it the AFF (AMERICA'S Football Federation)

Lets just Copy UEFA, 2 years of qualifying for both the WC and Copa America. So for the Copa America as we are talking here. It could be. 10 currently of Conmbeol + 34 of Concacaf (I wish Guadaloupe would not compete, them being a French Region, which is the equivalent of Hawaii having a team in Oceania, and it makes the number crunching for the groups easier :p ) = 44 teams. Divide those in to 7 groups of 6 teams and two groups would have 7 teams. The winner and runner up of each group, qualify automatically into the Copa. 14 teams. For the final two spots, the best third placed teams gets to go, and then the host.

The tournament would be a hit. You could have it in Canada, then Peru, then Mexico, Chile, US, Brazil etc...it would rival the Euro right away. You could play the Copa America right after the Euro. Euro 2008 ended on the 29th of June, so the Copa America could be held from the first week of July, until the last week. It would be beautiful.

qualifiying groups would still have to be regional to cut down on travel expense for the small countries, and also the 10 S.A. countries will lose all their power because the new federation would be controled by the Islands, they would have the most votes.

So can you see Jack Warner as the head of your AFF?

He has been controlling it for IDK, most of my life now. So its whatever for me. I guess the Sudacas would never do it. Specially Grondona and Co.

But you have to admit, the idea of it is great. We would be able to give smaller nations competitive football more often. Bigger nations would have more games to play to make money, and the revenue from Tv rights would be huge. Its just tough to get it to work, and I don't get paid the big bucks to do so. Someone else can figure out the kingks, I am just the visionary. :p

Its not meant as a slur, if that is what you are implying. I am not Spanish, who use it as a slur to refer to all latin America. I meant it more in its original version, which would be like someone saying "he is black".

If I insulted you, apologies. :)

If the people you are referring to consider it offensive, it´s best not to use it.

10 from CONEMBOL, 6 from CONCACAF is reasonable.

RE: Confed Cup; just give the CONCACAF spot to the highest finishing CONCACAF team in this new tournament.

Or bribe Blatter into allowing the 2 semifinalist into the confed cup. I am sure we can talk him into the possibility of having Brazil and Argentina at most Confed cups.

    P.S. 3rd and 4th place could sneak in if;
    1. A team from the Americas is the Defending WC champion.
    2. A country in the Americas is the host country for the confederation cup.

So in USA 2021 (confederations cup) we could have

    • USA (host)
    • Argentina (World Champion)
    • Peru (winner of copa America)
    • Brazil (runner up, takes concacaf usual spot)

Why do people keep bringing up this BS (and I don't mean Big Soccer) idea?

The CONMEBOL federations would never put up with the likes of Pirate Jack and his minions and they'd have to since 10 CONMEBOL nations aren't going to affect voting patterns in a combined Confederation. Since Pirate Jack and his minions would never cede any influence they wouldn't sacrifice any of their power so the one federation, one vote dynamic wouldn't change.
