I had Clever Crow pizza for lunch on Saturday (the fam I went to the farmer's market). Two slices of the goat cheese, one slice of the pepperoni. Both were excellent but the goat cheese one was superb. Roasted tomato, roasted peppers, thinly sliced red potato, and goat cheese. The crust is in a class by itself. The owner/chef told me that, going forward, I'd be better off ordering a half pizza (which is what three slices amounts to) or a whole instead of ordering a slice as, in his opinion, the end product is better because it is all fresh out of the over and not a warmed up slice. Furthermore, he recommended ordering the roasted corn and chipotle hummus vegan pizza and then adding sausage as he thinks that is the best pizza they make. Regardless, this place was fantastic for a lot of different reasons and I highly recommend it.
Clever Crow is freaking awesome. And the owner and his wife are always extremely nice and helpful. I am lactose intolerant so I get their vegan pizzas quite a bit. I can vouch, they are delicious.
He said that is why he offers the vegan, really: for lactose intolerant people. And also why he recommends ordering it with the sausage. A lot of people are lactose intolerant but NOT vegetarian.
Also, Yuengling is here today. I stopped at a Meijer for something unrelated and they had a TON of it.
Shoot me. Please for the love of god can someone explain the taste of Yuengling to me? I've had it. Its beer. Why is it so special? For the record, when I buy beer to just drink it, I'll get Killians, Amberbock or Shinerbock.
To: Everyone who is in on the secret Re: Our Agreement All-- Please remember our agreement. Nobody is allowed to tell Blake the secret. Thanks for your continued cooperation. Yours truly, The Captain
Well now. I have something to add to my to-do list. Along with buying Yuengling, Blake. MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Hopefully this will help bring back the Brewery District http://www.columbusunderground.com/forums/topic/world-of-beer-coming-soon-to-the-brewery-district
Yeah, I believe we discussed this a few pages back. Opening real soon. 2 blocks from my house. Just in time for the off-season
Fair enough. I think I don't like Yuengling because of everyone else's hard on for it. That may be the only reason. Which I am fine with that.
For cheap beer it's good. It's by no means a great beer but at it's price point it's better than almost everything else. Also since you couldn't get it here that added to it's mystique. Plus there are a ton of Yinzers here.
That is exactly what it is: a cheap macro done right. It is not supposed to replace Great Lakes, Founders, or even Columbus Brewing Company (which I think is great for the price). At $20 a case, Yuengling is fine and beats BMC by a mile. I lived in Philadelphia for 25 years before moving here and it comfort beer, bringing back many fond memories. BTW, there is a cheap good Pennsylvania beer that has been in Ohio for a while. Stegmaier Brewhouse Bock and Porter are excellent beers that sell for $6 a sixer. An interesting note- You can get a sixer of Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald at the Kroger up the street for $8.50. In Philly, because of the crazy and asinine blue laws, you can only get it in a specialty store for $14. Philly is a great beer city, but I love the beer scene in Columbus. I practically live in Bodega during happy hour.
I stopped by Jimmy V's in Grandview and they said that they have never seen anything like it. Not so much the hipsters just the amount of beer they have gone thru.
I finally tried Spice House on Roberts Rd. Very good indian place. Although they're closing it down soon since they also own the new(ish) Indian place on Sawmill near the old Borders.
Really excited about this place opening (High Street across from the Commons)- http://www.facebook.com/pages/de-NOVO-bistro-bar/198824386854318 Menu sounds really good. Chef is formerly from the Short Story in Granville.
Went to Northstar Cafe over at Easton for lunch today. Sure the place is ridiculously expensive for a quick lunch or dinner but when the company is paying - you enjoy - and enjoy I did... I had the Chicken and Avocado sandwich which was divine. The chicken was super moist and sliced on the bun with thick slices of avocados, roasted red pepper and provolone on top. Shared half of my sandwich with a friend who got the Crispy Thai Salad, so I could have a bit of that as well, equally fantastic.
I have a feeling im late on this one. I recently discovered Ray Ray's Hog Pit on High and Pacemont, its a food truck. They're only open friday saturday sunday 12-8 http://www.facebook.com/pages/Ray-Rays-Hog-Pit/110463212345454 The food is awesome, but there is a problem: the food is so good they often run out of items by late afternoon. Ribs and pulled pork, awesome. I hear the brisket is good but when im there they are always out, and usually there are people who walk up asking for it and walk away when told the brisket is out, so it must be good. But a pulled pork sandwich with two sides all for $7 has to be one of the best deals in this city. Get there before 3 if you want to choose from a full menu!
The Northstar Burger is my favorite burger. Period. And it is vegetarian. I've said that in this threat before but it bears repeating.
You complete me. I agree 100%. The Northstar burger was JUST OFF my top 5 foods ever eaten list. Probably number 7.
Oddly enough my wife loves the veggie burger at 4th Street better than the one at Northstar (which she also likes). It's not my cup of tea, but suggest checking it out if you like veggi burgers.
