That MLS rumors rumors thing is hilarious, cause half the stuff they post never happens and they look like idiots. But if this happened at DC, Toronto, Houston and Chicago the EXACT same thing would have happened. A Chivas USA fan was stabbed by an El Battalon member earlier this year and we hardly heard anything about it.

Did I say they were all racists? Clearly I did not, so chill on that front. I pointed out an incident, one that has gotten national attention. No other team had it happen, right? Hell, I'm firmly in the corner that you're on. One guy did something stupid and it makes the whole section look bad. And it extends beyond your city. My friends all know of my deep involvement with the Wizards supporters section and many of them have already brought this up to me, pointing out all of the bad it brings.

Trust me, as a leader in the Cauldron, I've dealt with my share of one person causing a major problems that the "section" can't do anything about over the last few years. The point is, and it can't be denied, that it looks bad on the entire organization, fans included. Do you honestly think a family, if they saw the videos or even if they hear about it, would be MORE interested in coming to a game after that slur or this fight? As supporters sections we want higher attendance and more passionate crowds at our games. Things like this don't help that cause.

I'm not making generalizations about your fans. I'm pointing out that there's an issue in Columbus, it starts with security in my opinion but the fans also have to step up at some point around a supporters section and keep things like this from happening. As we learned in KC, it's far easier when the fans help handle issues as compared when the testosterone-filled security knuckleheads get involved.

I am against it as well but the local news station released his name. This just makes it slightly easier to find.

That's a good point. I did see Archer's thread on this in the Crew Forum. I just meant the national headlines - Hooligans gone wild in Columbus angle.

The problem we're having with that, Ben, is that when one of the leaders tries to go over to defuse a situation, CSC is already there and shoving us out of the way. We can't work to help the situation if we're being disregarded and manhandled ourselves. Ben, you've seen the way I look when I enter the stadium. I'm pretty damn conspicuous and just about every person, CSC included, in that corner knows exactly who I am and most know who the other leaders of the various groups are. It's just another instance of our Club deciding that it really doesn't need the leaders of the groups helping with anything and that they are going to handle the problem any damn way they please.

Whoever wrote the AP story that broke so quickly should be ashamed of themselves. I posted about this back on page 10 or 11, and now the videos on youtube back me up. Nothing happened!!! Some pushing and shoving, maybe a few punches, but not a lot. Meanwhile, the AP says:
Sorry, but pushing and shoving and maybe 5 or 6 punches being thrown does not equal "a brawl between more than 100 fans".

    What a load of bullshit.

Who wrote that AP story? Some West Ham guy on vacation who was trying to make his club look all tough, or some soccer-hating American reporter?

Either way, this is being blown way out of proportion, and the AP story that's getting copied everywhere is a piece of shit.

Has MLS claimed copyright jurisdiction on these videos yet, as they were taken in one of their stadiums? ;)

That's the same sort of issue we were having with security at Arrowhead (ask any Wizards fan about the "Queen Marine". It got to the point where OnGoal had leaders of the Cauldron sit down with Front Office people, and heads of security to try and work something out cause it was out of hand. What ended up happening was a group of "liaisons" were set up, where certain Cauldron members acted almost as go betweens between security and the other members of the section. Course that means that the head of security needs to relay that to his staff in front of your section, and make sure they understand who to look for if something is going down.

Actually, wrong. Dante Washington said that he was called a n***** by a fan in Dallas when he played for Columbus. I'm sure it's happened other places too - to think otherwise is naive. Ditto for swearing from the stands (can be heard a lot on TV broadcasts) and stuff being tossed on the field (can be seen nearly every week - just watch during corner kicks). Even these dust-ups happen from time to time; there have been several other ones involving MLS teams this season.

Yet, for some reason, it's only "newsworthy" if it happens in Columbus. Everyone ignores the exact same stuff when it happens elsewhere. Why is that? (I understand that the "racist incident" appearing on YouTube gives in an immediacy other incidents haven't had, but that doesn't change the fact that Columbus is in no way extraordinary in this regard.)

BTW, I've been threatened and welcomed at the same game in the past. The threats were enough to make me remove my kit and leave early for my own safety. I was attending a US Open Cup match between another MLS team and a USL team, and I wore my Crew kit because they were playing simultaneously in another city.

All right. Well I'll be sure to tell the other dozen or so Rapids fans that regularly attend the games that we'll need to keep a look out and be pumped. Tho if they bring 30, that might outnumber us!!

Seriously...has this thread brought out more newbies, sockpuppets and drive-bys than any you can think of recently?

Look, if you go looking for a fight based on what colors someone wears or because they don't have the same ideas about soccer or life than you, you're not a righteous beacon of truth or a hard man, you're just an asshat.

Responding when provoked may not be the "Christian*" thing to do, and it's not the most mature thing ever, but it's miles ahead of the faux-hooligans who wear their bruises and arrest records like badges of honor.

It's a ********ing soccer game, you twits.

Myself and about 15 Revs fans were at Crew Stadium for the Revs-Crew game. Overall it was a great experience, as we did spend some time with HardHatMike and his fellow supporters. We did have a little problem in the stands...

As the game wore on, more and more Crew fans were congregating in the stands behind us which were empty at the start of the game. At one point I was at the end of our group, and three 20something guys were literally right next to me, trying to goad us into a fight. Fortunately, I have a thick skin. At one point they started to take down a banner we had put up. When I got the attention of a security guard (wearing a white polo shirt) and told him their fans were trying to take our stuff, he looked at me and said "We are here to make sure you don't throw stuff." I then threw a streamer on the field. He did nothing. To security's credit, they did escort us out of the stadium, even though they should have been more pro-active protecting away fans.

In an ironic twist, the 20somethings got kicked out for starting a fight with other Crew fans over an AC Milan Kaka shirt one of the 20somethings was wearing. Funny stuff.

As more and more fans travel to away games as an organized group, it will become necessary for MLS to adopt an away fans policy for the protection of both the home and away supporters.

As if the campaign coverage didn't prove it, the AP is now officially a piece of crap.

I disagree that having an away fans "policy" will ever be necessary in MLS.

If Eagles fans can go to FedEx Field or Steelers fans can go to M&T Bank Stadium or Yankee fans can go to Fenway or Michigan fans can go to "The Horseshoe" or UNC fans can go to Cameron Indoor Stadium, I'm pretty sure that Revs fans can safely go to Columbus Crew Stadium.

American sports fans do not have the mindset that will require an official away fans policy.

    True.

We did safely go to Crew Stadium, and had a nice time overall.

Back in the day before the Moonies bought United Press International, the saying used to be "you can't spell 'cheap' without AP, and you can't spell "stupid" without UPI.

Fvkc that. If MLS ever has an official away fan segregation policy, I'll stop buying season tickets. We don't need that crap in MLS.
