    Attendance.

1,216 on Friday, 1,022 on Sunday.

So I walk into Chase Bank this afternoon wearing the shirt they gave us Friday, and a Cubicle Person comes out and tells me that she had spoken to Coach Sanchez on Monday and he was really impressed with the crowds. She even knew the twelvehundredsomething number.

Friday's attendance was #20 in the country for the week, and we were up against quite a few neighbors playing each other. #6 Penn State hosting #1 Stanford drew 5,117. Neighborly games included Portland hosting Oregon (4,912), Texas A&M hosting Texas San Antonio (4,334), Kennesaw State hosting Georgia State (2,683), Utah hosting BYU (2,364), Northern Arizona hosting Arizona State (2,207), Marquette hosting Milwaukee (1,892), Central Florida - Florida State, Utah - Southern Utah, etc etc.

At the other end of the neighborly scale, California hosting Santa Clara (381), Boston University hosting Boston College (169). There are others, but since overkill has already been surpassed ...

I didn't know where they are either. Georgia State is downtown Atlanta, and Kennesaw State about 20 miles south.

Last year she had a lot of shots, and many of them barley missed.

If Amy Steiner were still here, Amy B could play up front with Annie. If nothing ales her this year, Annie could break some scoring records.

I notice she doesn't just mash the ball like she did in the Pabst.

Nikki Machalek, one of her Buds from the Fairview team when they won the state championship, has our only other goal. Annie has been very accurate this year, this is good because it doesn't Schlitz well with coaches when she misses open shots.

What? It's not like they are the Sol threat. Other players have their Beck's.

For what its wort, I understand the Bock four is pretty good....

Goal on a corner kick !!!

Northwestern scored twice two minutes apart early in the game, second one was a PK. Buffs are having a better second half, Amy scored on a corner kick and Madison got one four minutes later, 2-2 at the end of the third quarter.

Amy seems to be up front somewhere, 5 of our 11 shots, 3 of our 5 on goal.

Overtime. Annie made a save with 17 seconds left. A strong second half for the Buffs.

    CU 2, Northwestern 2

When was the last time the Buffs had a road comeback like this? Down 2-0 fifteen minutes in and proceed to outplay Northwestern for most of the rest of the game. Shots wound up 16-10 Buffs, but on goal was 8-6 Northwestern. This will be an interesting one to read about. Darcy played most of the game, so it sounds like we have her back.

    News of the Neighborhood

Traveling from north to south …

Playing at home, Wyoming defeated Nebraska-Omaha 4-2 and Eastern Washington 4-1. They have won five in a row. Thursday they travel to Greeley to play Northern Colorado, and Sunday back home for Washington State.

Northern Colorado traveled to Utah State and got hammered … shots 18-5 (13-1 in the second half), on goal 8-1, corners 6-0. But this is soccer, not a sane sport, that one second-half shot went in, 1-0 Bears. Then they came home and hammered Nebraska-Omaha … shots 20-4, on goal 11-2, sanity was restored and they won 2-1. Thursday they host Wyoming, and have the rest of the weekend off.

Boulder native Katy Van Lieshout scored in the 89th minute to give Denver a 1-0 win at St Louis. The game was moved up six hours, hoping to avoid Hurricane Isaac, didn’t work, the second half began with a 25 minute deluge, I guess we don’t see rain like that in Colorado. But the Pioneers play well under water as they dominated the second half in interesting conditions. Denver’s home opener is Friday night against this thundering herd of large prairie animals from just up the Turnpike, then they play the Anteaters on Sunday. Really.

Air Force hosted Eastern Washington. Combined 45 shots, 17 on goal, 0-0. A great game if you like goalkeeping. Next weekend, Robert Morris and Bryant University visit the Academy. We will see them on Sunday the 16th in Boulder.

Colorado College tied Utah 2-2 at home, something of a Woulda Coulda Shoulda like their game against the Buffs, then flew over the Rockies to get dismantled at BYU, 2-0, the score was kept respectable by outstanding goalkeeping. Next weekend they also host Robert Morris and Bryant, two teams that will be happy to go back home where there is more air in the air.
