Meh... As long as he plays in a good league, I really don't mind the team that much. I don't think there is a high correlation between the goalkeeper rating and FIFA ranking.

Well he started with Nice when we were likely in the FIFA 40s, so NT rankings have nothing to do with it. You've got to consider that this 'small club' took a gamble on a player whose national team hasn't been in the international stage for over 14 years. And whose club experience, while successful, was still very much in it's infancy. They picked him up at a very very young age. Europe also happens to breed plenty of top goal keepers. So to even make it to Europe for a GK is quite an accomplishment. Let alone start.
Listen, I hope he plays for one of the top clubs (even in France) but he still is very young and GKeepers have a much longer shelf life than field players. So as long as he's getting minutes on the field and facing good opposition than I'm happy with that. I would prefer to hear news about any other Colombian keeper making a difference outside of Colombia.

i'm confident enough in this team that we are in the driver's seat to qualify for the world cup, so

i came up with a preliminary 23-man roster and it's actually more difficult than i thought to put one together. would love to hear what you think:

    GK (3):
David Ospina - no doubt our #1
Mondragon - if he keeps getting roster invites, i don't see why won't be on the squad
camilo vargas - i hate how teams are required to bring in 3 keepers - i wonder what the stat is on the number of times a 3rd string keeper was used in a game.

    DEF (7):
Zuniga - no brainer, Edwin Valencia looks to be the #2 option
Armero - no brainer, but there is no cover for him - maybe Zapata or Perea if Yepes is playing?
    Yepes - the captain
    Perea - the vice captain
Carlos Valdes - been a regular lately, i don't see him being excluded anytime soon
Aquivaldo - provides additioanl leadership and depth
    Zapata - provides depth

    Mid (9):
    James - our #10
Cuadrado - either our super sub or opposite wing playmaker
Edwin Valencia - starting defensive mid
Carlos Sanchez - can start when needed otherwise will be a defensive strategic sub
Abel Aguilar - our version of Gilberto Silva
Mac Torres - fits in well with the current Pekerman plan
Aldo Ramirez - fits in well with the current Pekerman Plan
Freddy Guarin - surprisingly has not been integral to Pekerman's plan
Juan Fernando Quintero - we will see more of him post 2013 sub 20 world cup

    FW (4):
Falcao - best pure #9 in the world
Teo Gutierrez- works well in pekerman's system as the best partner to Falcao
Jackson Martinez- shines anytime he wears the yellow shirt
Luis Muriel - tough choice between him and Bacca

    players excluded:
Carlos Bacca, Elkin Soto, Dorlan Pabon, Victor Ibarbo, Darwin Quintero

of the 23 i put together i have concerns about Aldo the most - not from a quality perspective but just given his age by 2014...and i have a weird feeling about Guarin given his lack of appearances under pekerman. as much as i love pekerman and what he has done for us. he did exclude Javier zanetti from Argentina in 2006...

otherwise i think my 23 is reasonable (outside of GK's - i admit i am not that in tune with the other keepers out there).

It's a bit too early - I would really rather wait until we get thru the next 2 games and then make a call. However, I think you easily have 95% of the list correct with the exception of the 3rd GK changing in the next year or so. While I also like the way E. Valencia fits into our team I don't know why I get the feeling that he'll be injured at some point. I think Aldo will make the WC squad but I can see Pekerman dropping 1-2 defenders from that list and getting someone else in place. I think between CL, CS, WCU20 and club team play in the next 3-9 months, there will likely be 1-2 players that pick up their play and either transfer elsewhere or become the next star locally. This will give Pkman added options.

I went back and checked Pekerman's side by Argentina's matchday 15 vs Brazil, which they won 3-1.
From that call up you find that he had 95% of his starting XI in mind but was still improvising on his bench. Interestingly enough he dropped 2 MAIN defensive stays : Zanetti and Samuel.

one other note that I'm not sure if it's to be a factor or not. Many of our professional players have played highly important matches in their careers (Copa Lib, Champions, UEFA, Youth WC, etc). But one lack of experience that they all have is not having EVER participated in a World Cup (with the exception of Mondragon). So on one hand we have a highly experience coach. But on the other we have a crop of great players who will experience a WC for the 1st time.

Hope all this pre WC talk is not a jinx ;)

It depends, because Pekerman will choose the ones who are in best form for the WC (I believe). In general, of course that Quintero should be in the list, and maybe one of the others won't be in good form so we can pass him.

So I updated the Colombian NT wikipedia and noticed that Pekerman really hasn't changed his roster at all other than because of injury. Only 3 goalies...

I still think that Cuadrado is better than Mondragon(will be 42 by the WC)

Of the rest of our team. I think the big changes need to come in the CB area. We need to drop Yepes(38), Mondragon(33) and Perea (35) by WC time. Murillo is getting ton of love in the 2nd div Spain, Pedro Franco and Medina (both 21)

In MF I'd take out Elkin and bring in Ibarbo

Mondragon is 41 and is not as good as Vargas 23 and both are benched by OSpina who is 24. I just don't see how Mondragon or Yepes can be at the World Cup unless they are part of the coaching staff. Mosquera and Perea should just stop getting called as they aren't good enough

but you are proposing over them, that al least have experience.....and very few goals received, players that are very average..........that is normal, that they do bloopers agianst envigado and quindio......or they are fighting the starting spot with a 40 year old man in caldas..........they only real adavantage are is that they are youngs........

And , veteran players are necessarily in the field.......no matter that you manager mode in fifa 13, thinks the opposite..........is difficult to find, a succesful team without some veterans....at least at NT level

trust in pekerman, he had in microciclos franco.......he did a risky bet with valdez, when carlos wasnt in the plans of anyone.....i think that he really looked out........

i agree, that one or two of the cbs, can go out.........

    i hope that you read........

Did you update the upcoming fixtures? Cuz I see that we supposedly play England on June 16 in Bogota which is weird, and a bunch of other games scheduled that I didn't even know about or is it BS?

I don't touch that. Just current roster and game results. It's annoying because people put bullshit game all the time. I usually delete them. We are suppose to play Corea so I deleted it. Some keeps adding players who never played for us as well. Kind of annoying.

I think all those games are BS why wouldn't we play friendlies in Barranquilla?

So we have a training camp for 20 days instead of games. Any one else think we should have called up more players? I know the final list isn't out yet but I mean why didn't he call Ibarbo, Arias, Quinones just to train? I know the colombian league is still going on but when some teams are eliminated why not call up some more guys?

Guarin got hurt man and Teo/Macnelly are world class in Barranquilla. Macnelly is garbage a way tho.

Guarins form since he got hurt in the Venezulea game has been very inconsistent. If he can stay in top form he will be our 2nd most important player after James. The Peru game(plus all of Copa America) show'd it we are a average team without him.

Or, Pekerman should admit he hates Inter Milan, and ask Guarin to switch teams. ;)

I love how you decide things :p
But wait a minute, I already saw Mac gives some great games in cities like Bogota & Medellin. Or maybe he's garbage only outside Colombia? or maybe he playes garbage in countries which doesn't have yellow color in their flag?? Weird, isn't it...?

Macnelly is decent I would never say great. He only plays 10 minutes a game. Defends less than James, Teo and Falcao do. Regardless of where he plays. Macnelly isn't utter crap because James takes all the pressure off him. I know he is a Nacional player but he is the new Princessa.

Will you stop with this whole Nacional crap? Why do you think that I give a damn regarding the NT players's teams? Nothing to do with the fact that he is from Nacional but to say Mac plays only 10 minutes or Mac only plays in Quilla - I'm sorry but this is one of the stupidest sentences I've ever herd.
