Fair enough. I knew someone would bring up Pabon's recent play.

I just think Ibardo fits into the Antioqueno's toque-toque, dribble the ball with technical ability, run the ball into the net style of play.

Pabon seems to me more of a fast pace and bazooka shot from way outside the box sort of player.

Love this formation actually. Though I'd stick with Ospina in goal.

Our U20 sides that featured these guys played a lot of 3-5-2 and it worked well. However, I dont think I've ever seen Maturana or Bolillo stray from a back four.

I will cringe if I see both Yepes and Cordoba out there. Although they probably would play well against an average team like South Africa, I still don't like it.

Yepes is solid. Cordoba just needs consistent playing time. Don't be so quick to shut off.

If your interested this is how I think it will go next WC 2014.

Argentina will be on the same top level as Brasil.

Uruguay will be on a down. Most players around the 30 mark by then.
    Paraguay even worse.

Chile will be going up, the talent they have created in the last 4 years is astonishing and with Bielsa, in charge. If possible Chile will be knocked out in first round this WC and Bielsa gets the sack. Comes to us.

Bolivia will be on the rise but still not enough.

Ecuador will be on a down, a big down, the entire team needs an overhaul. Of course except Valencia, and other wing players, cant remember that sick kid, they have one good young CB coming through and guess Caicedo up front.

Colombia, from an outsiders point of view we will only be going up, we hit our down. The talent coming through is amazing, I mean Gio Mo, is near enough amazing. Radamel, Jackson, I mean from an outsiders point of view this is a cold talent of youth, much the same as Chile's.

Venezuela will be on a rise, but well have to see how much talent will come through when Maldonados etc have retired.

Like someone said we had no identity a few years back, even if we lose both friendlies, I believe in Bolillo. He has done it before at the highest level and will do so again. Many players blaming him for lack of interest in the opposite teams tactics before matches.

He has made many mistakes, yes, but will he learn from them and become better. yes.

You can have a team with the best players on them but if you don't position your players where they play at their top form and contribute to the team we will never do anything, we will look sloppy unorganized. Like Falcao said in an interview once, he said we need a coach who can understand the players and where they best play on the field.

Exactly as opposed to coaches (since it's not just bolillo) who plays the same REGARDLESS of what players we field.

If possible Chile will be knocked out in first round this WC and Bielsa gets the sack. Comes to us.

I'm sure he would but maturana would never allow that to happen. He'd be green of envy if a foreigner fixed our problems and proved him wrong.

While 4 years is a very long period in football, I think that the bottom line question is: Would Colombia be able to bounce back and be considered part of the upper middle class (along Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay), will continue drifting towards the lower middle class (Ecuador and Venezuela) or will sink with the poorest of the area Peru and Bolivia?

Off course it is possible that some of our rivals will move up (Ecuador and Peru) and some down (Chile and Paraguay - sorry Jinks, but Uruguay produces so much talent that it won't matter when this generation retires), but the real question is where are we headed?

I do not like Bolillo as our coach at all and I am boycoting the games until at least the end of Copa America... I have the deep feeling that we will be once again dissapointed.. But that is my opinion and it is only logical to me not to have great expectations after seeing the failure of colombian football at almost every single level... As said before, it would be insane to expect a different outcome doing the same moves over and over...

Now, regarding what to expect in these two games, any coach, even somebody as controversial as Gomez, should not be judge on them. These two games are like 15 minutes given to a great prospect when you're down 5-0... It is garbage time... Hey, go and have your 15 minutes with the big boys... In that sense I'm not even questioning who was called or who wasn't, not even going to especulate on lineups or on tactics... It is a waste of time...

The only thing that really pisses me off, is what ryu has been hammering all week long: How unprofessional these two guys (Gomez and Maturana) are.. Hey... They can call whoever they want... But do it for the right reasons: Because you think they can contribute to your team!!!!!! If I was IRC and saw that interview I would simply say.. Thanks, but no thanks...

That is THE question. We've got players - but we've always had players as good or better than the 'upper middle class' you mention - what are we going to do that is different this time so that they don't out coach and out organize our teams.

In the larger scheme of things, these games are meaningless. We had friendlies against World Cup teams before Germany 2006 - and our teams did well in those, we even had the miracle goal from Neko Martinez, but no one remembers those now.

That said, I'd still like to watch: anyone know if this will be televised?

We had better defensive players than the others Paraguay,Chile, Ecuador and Uruguay. But out of all of these we had the worst offense, maybe because of our style that only 1 real midfielder attacks or sets up attacks and only 2 players are made to shoot at goal. From 1997-2005 our best option up front was Angel who lets face it is a good striker but not one that can single handly win you games.

After 1994 we should have started bringing in new blood for 1998 but by that time what was available wasn't that great. Until Falcao there really hasn't been that great a striker since Asprilla or Rincon days. Falcao is a start of a new Generation for us as well as Jackson but now I fear we have no defenders and are forced to use Yepes at 34 and our only option at goal is Ospina who I love for what he did at Nacional but the kid is only 21 and no one else is even close to his level and he is not world class.

We need to be a more offensive team and just hope we score more than we conceed which scares me about bolillo because he likes to bunker after he scores and with our current defensive options Defending scares me.

I agree with both the points here - but for me whats interesting is that I do not believe Paraguay, Chile, Ecuador or Uruguay had substantially better offensive players than us over that period.

Its about game planning and strategy - in particular, Ecuador was able to maintain a terrific home record over its 02 and 06 qualifying campaign. Until the 2010 campaign, Paraguay had been a VERY defensive side that focused on the long ball and capitalizing on their strikers (almost skipping over their midfield all together).

Ironically, Uruguay is the side with prob the most firepower of those mentioned above, and yet they qualified for 02 and 2010 by the skin of their teeth.

Its strategy and team cohesion that we've been missing. And thats what worries me about our choice of mgmt going forward - I'll give them a shot, but how substantially different are we going to be from the formula thats failed three straight times? Its a marvel of how poorly structured our Fed is that there hasn't been any accountability for the failures - instead we just rehire from amongst those that haven't been able to get the job done.

I hope Bolillo has learned a ton in the past few years and is about to have his 'john travolta in pulp fiction/ robert downey jr in iron man' (i'm washed up but am about to turn it all around) moment, and I guess thats our hope now because he is what we've got.

I'm less concerned about our defending options - Zapata is a beast and has a huge heart (he won my allegiance playing 30 minutes with a broken face) and I really like Mosquera when he is on form.
