So far it's 1 win a piece, both 3-1 victories for the home sides. So this brings up an interesting question: what happens if the final two games are draws or opposite results like the first two games(1 win for each team by the same score)? Either scenario would mean goal difference would be tied, as well as home/away goals. I can't remember if we set any sort of extended tiebreaker rules for the Cup back in 2010. Whatever happens Wednesday, the Coastal Cup winner will be decided on September 1st at Lockhart. Of course the Cup will be staying at Lockhart , but just wanted to check in on the tiebreaker situation.
I do.. you have to win the cup outright, ties go to the holder... I don't want to hear shit about penalty kicks...
Thank you for letting me decide this... I am basing my opinion on international golf competitions... you have to win the cup outright... a tie isn't good enough to take the cup...
Easy for you guys to say lol. Honestly though I think that's fair enough but what constitutes a tie? Any tiebreakers at all? I think you have to at least have one, goal difference or away goals are important enough to decide a winner if need be IMO. Right now it's both teams with 3 points. Rowdies 4 goals for, 4 goals against, 1 away goal, Strikers exactly the same 4 GF, 4GA and 1 away goal. There are a few schools of thought, looking at some of the MLS rivalry cups. The Trillium Cup between Columbus and TFC uses away goals, then goal difference as tiebreakers. The Brimstone Cup (FCD/Chicago) uses no tiebreakers but they count all US Open Cup/Playoff games(if any). The Rocky Mountain Cup (RSL/Rapids) uses total goals and then resorts to the holder retaining if still tied. Definitely need a consensus from everyone involved on this. Maybe something can be brokered before the match Wednesday. You guys are tailgating correct?
oh, I was agreeing with the tiebreaker rules that you mentioned at the onset, "goals for, goals against, weighted by home and away venues". I was saying to leave it at that. If it is still tied "as you described" then the holder retains the cup. I don't give a damn how MLS does it. The Coastal Cup must be won outright. you agree, I agree, Speedcake agrees... the only voices involved should be those who care and have a better proposal. Tailgating is for eating, drinking, and making fun of the Lickers!
well sure: points, goal difference, goals scored, away goals, etc. can all be taken into consideration. Just that as it stands after two games this season the teams are deadlocked by all those criteria. So we have to consider what to do if it stays that way.
Yeah if it gets down that far I don't think anyone would have a problem with the holder retaining it. Which would mean with draws in the final two games(not an unlikely scenario at all), or opposite results like the first two games, everything would be tied and you guys would keep the cup.
I realize all the opponents are equal, but I disagree... keep it between the Rowdies and the other Florida team oop:
In which case a competition between Tampa Bay and Fort Lauderdale could be decided by what Tampa Bay does against Carolina or Ft. Lauderdale does against San Antonio. Makes sense.
The Rowdies would have to lost by 3 goals in the final game of the 2012 edition of the Coastal Cup in order to lose to the Strikers. Anything can happen. We lost by two goals to those jerks in the first game at Ft. Lauderdale. In fact all three games have ended with the same scoreline. So we'll see, but odds are on for the Rowdies to keep the cup if we go by the rules we have sort of set out here.
It was supposed to be between Tampa Bay, Miami, PR and Orlando. Then the TOA kerfluffle happened, and now you're missing a piece.
Imo Charles (and this isn't a rip on you) as the president of the mob, you should embrace fan driven cups. I have personally tried to revive this thing but I have gotten static stateside. Back in PR there is support for it, but there needs to be equal interest from all sides. That being said, I hope all supporters groups can support it. If not, I'll start a second supporters group in Tampa Bay and pay for the damn thing (the actually trophy) myself. It's a great idea that should have caught on. For me this one is a no brainer. Wheels are turning.
