Paul Shaw will no longer be an interim coach of FC New York. He has been named the head coach of the USL PRO team, effective Sept. 28, the team announced on Wednesday. "Taking over when Paul did was difficult, especially since he was a player on the team as well as assistant coach," FCNY president Doug Petersen said. "Paul pressed upon us how much he wanted the position and he has worked very hard with members of the area soccer community to be out watching matches or leading clinics.” Shaw and director of soccer Carlo Acquista have spent the last few weeks doing player evaluations and renewing or releasing players prior to the league deadline. “I am eager to get going and improve our performance for our second year,” Shaw said. FC New York finished its inaugural season at 6-11-7, two points from the last playoff spot.
I think it's a good move. Hopefully they can keep most of the squad together. Not happy to hear they let Steve Roche go, thought he made excellent passes from Midfield.
FC New York’s standout rookie defender Kyle Hoffer, a USL PRO All-League selection and one of the few players in USLPRO to play every minute of every game, has joined Ekenäs IF based in Raseborg, Finland. USL PRO assist leader and rookie of the year finalist Tadeu Terra has landed with MyPa in Sippola, Finland. EIF was founded in 1903 and is coached by Stefano Franciosa, an American and former assistant coach at Boston College. MyPa was founded in 1947 and in 2005 participated in the UEFA Cup. “This is a great opportunity for Kyle and Tadeu to continue to play at a very competitive level,” FC New York director of soccer Carlo Acquista said. Fans can follow Hoffer at www.eif.fi and Terra at www.mypa.fi.
