I have a question that I'm sure one of you can answer. In 1994 the Gunners beat Parma 1-0 for the European Cup Winners Cup, is that equivalent to the Champions League today? Is it fair to say we were Champions of Europe that year??? Sorry to start a new thread for this. While we are on the subject and since we WILL win a Cup this year, here are the Clubs Honors. no. the cl is the european cup, which is and was always THE top trophy. the cup winners cup and uefa cup were intergrated and devalued with the start/expansion of the cl. most of the teams in the cl now would have been in the uefa/cup winners competitions, making those comps stronger back then than now. the europa league is still the uefa cup, but reformatted to try and bring back the prestige it used to have. the fairs cup is a predecessor to the uefa cup.
What lamb said. Also, the Cup Winners cup was the cup for all winners of the major domestic cup. We entered it in 1993/4 since we won the FA Cup in 1993.
