Well he was brought in by Magath originally as a back up to Hinkel but he was doing so well and their left back, Gerber, wasn't getting any younger and had some injuries so he decided to play Lahm there instead. Just to clear that up. :)

I still think he would have been a great buy. He's also very versatile, and with Schweini out maybe we could do with someone to play in his spot too.

He is full of talent isn't he, not sure if he acts as Schweini's replacement, looks sort of temporary to me. He is very talented, though.

I think Jupps approach to the game is phenomenal, he has changed the attitude of players time and time again, gets them fighting for the ball like crazy everytime they lose it and is really the disciplinarian when it comes to defense. If he can make a world class defender out of Badstuber he is getting my vote.

Just for a laugh, a comment of a ManCity fan before the CL games started: "Talent wise, there's no reason to think otherwise. It's all in the head. The pressure is on us because we have the biggest payroll in Europe and the entire world of football hate our guts. If we perform at our highest level, there's no way Bayern, Napoli, and Villareal can get a point from us."

Vidal would have been a perfect addition to our squad, especially now that we play with a 3 man midfield. And we would have been our backup RB. sigh

A kid in the year 2050 watching CL highlights from our era will undoubtedly arrive at the conclusion, that the level of football in 2011 was amateurish at best, defenders passing the ball to opponents, players scoring goals being totally unmarked with acres of space and ages of time. No wonder that Ribery guy scored so many goals and did his fancy stuff when he had no opponents around that covered him.

Seriously, if that game had been from 1971, some wise kid wouldn't hesitate to write a comment about "awful defending" and "surreal space for the goal scorers" and "that couldn't happen today, the level is so much better since then".
    2 people repped this.

As we are undisputed at #1 Spot of the Group, my Ideal formation against City is (4-4-2):

    ...................Olic.........Petersen..............

    ...........Pranjic......................Müller..........

    ..................Alaba...........Tymo................

    Contento.........Gustavo...DvB..........Rafinha

    .............................Butt.........................

Ha. Now that Bayern can relax a little, I fancy the idea of going to their place and giving them a right royal tanning to send them packing into the Europa League.

And he would have a point wouldn't he? That changes nothing about the fact that todays matches could be as thrilling as the matches in future. ;)

I guess I struck a nerve :D I only meant that I disagree. Wasn't trying to stir the pot.

How can you not set assist records for yourself if you are playing directly behind the most lethal player in the league? All you need to do to rack up assists is literally lay the ball forward.

Lahm established himself as a world class full back on the left, and proved he was capable of doing it on the right as well. When you evaluate his skill set going forward, he is much better suited to the left and regardless of which side he plays on, he'll get the best out of the winger playing ahead of him.

See how I did a nice response without being a dick again? It's not as hard as you think, despite how antagonized you may feel.

No, I don't...but that if I do or don't - they still aren't "ruled out". You do know what "ruled out" means, right?

chances of them coming out second are too slim, shame really, they lost their best player, but hopefully they'll be back next year.

No you did not and I am neither agonized. Just wanted to point out that it is probably not a productive way of starting a dialogue. The question was never really whether Lahm was a class player or whether he brings out the best in the winger ahead of him. It would be foolish to discuss that. The issue is that Lahm on the left limits Bayern tactically against teams that double them effectively. Easy way to counteract the doubling is to sprint to the byline but he won't do it naturally because he has no left foot. Don't see why that is so hard to understand honestly. :(

You can't have it both ways. Either he did not have a good year, or you give credit when credit is due. You seem to be twisting in the wind on that. Probably watched too many GOP debates. ;) Does not matter who played in front of him. Because it was not Gomez since he played the "bench" for most of his first year and Klose (don't confuse him with a different player - NT Klose) and Olic played up top for most. Robben did score goals but either way, imo it's a weak argument at best. You give credit to Robben there but not to Lahm. Double standart so it fits your argument.

Ruling something out mean "zero chance". Their chance may be 1 in a million but they are not ruled out yet, regardless of the odds. It is not that difficult to understand.

A LB tactically does make sense, but it has to be with quality. If we get Rafinha's version of a LB, it doesn't make much sense.

Who can Bayern even get in this position that looks quality?

I thought Rafinha was doing fine on the right according to most in here. Getting a left footed Rafinha for the left would move Lahm over to the right (where he is more comfortable). That is already an upgrade to what we had before or what we currently have.

In other words, you are just confirming that we are not where we need to be with Lahm on the left and Rafinha on the right.

I think it can add something different on the left side with a left footed player, because after all Lahm-Ribery were the best left wing side in Europe 3 years back. But yes having a good, quality LB and Lahm RB may improve Bayern even moreso.

Question is does Jupp see it the same way? Will he bother making a change? Will he and FO give green light on spending some money on a LB?

And as I said before, what LB is available that we can get that is quality? Coentrao would be great, but would Real even bother selling him and esp for 1/2 the price they paid, because 30m is simply a ludicrous amount. I don't see much options out there tbh, unless someone here is willing to shed some light.

Easy answer, no they won't. Because to them it's a marginal upgrade. We still need back-ups for many positions. I would be over the moon if we at least work on that. It is Bayern's FO in the end after all. So I am not confident that will happen.
